Theplant sat on a 47-acre site and consisted of approximately 25 buildings encompassing2.3 million square feet. During World War II, the plant was utilized to produce ammunitionand parts for airplanes, submarines, and other military equipment. Over theyears, the plant grew old and could not produce as efficiently as some of the newerfacilities located throughout the country. The site is being redeveloped into a new officebuilding for the nearby Lancaster General Hospital and sports facilities for Franklin &Marshall College.SCOPE OF WORKIdentified and performed utility disconnects and reroutesRemoved all asbestos-containing material and disposed of all other hazardous materialRemoved and disposed of residual waste from storage tanks, pipes, vessels, and processequipmentRemoved all above-grade structures including buildings, tanks, and pipingRemoved all floor slabs, foundations, pilings, pile caps, caissons, and concrete pads sixfeet below-grade levelCracked and backfilled all basements, slabs, pits, and trenches in excess of six feetbelow-grade levelRemoved all railroad tracks, ties, and ballastSalvaged over two million bricks, and processed 400,000 tons of concrete utilizingBrandenburg’s onsite mobile crusherPerformed below-grade environmental remediationBrandenburg ®
