CHEERLEADING CLINIC INFORMATIONI. DATECheerleading clinic will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011, through Thursday, May 19, 2011. This yearthe clinic will be in the OLM gym or dance room from 3:30 PM until 6:30 PM and the final day of tryoutsis Thursday, May 19 from 3:30 pm until finished (no later than 7:00). All information and constitution willbe available on the OLM cheerleading webpage. All tryout forms must be returned on Monday, May 16.You cannot participate in the clinic until all forms are turned in!!II.QUALIFICATIONS FOR TRYOUTSA. EligibilityAny student presently enrolled at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School and who has for the firstsix weeks preceding the clinic passed five out of six classes, maintained good conduct in all classes,and plans to belong to no conflicting activity is eligible to participate in the training clinic conducted atOLM.B. Parental PermissionEach candidate must present to the coach a permit signed by both parents or guardian giving thempermission to take part in the practice sessions.C. Medical ExaminationEach candidate must present to the coach a medical form completed by a physician stating that they arephysically able to carry out cheering activities.D. InsuranceEach candidate must present to the coach a form stating that school insurance or a policy of the parentsor guardians covers them.III.REQUIREMENTS FOR CLINIC SESSIONSA. Learn and be able to execute the cheers, jumps, and routine taught in the sessions.B. Present an original cheerC. Attend the training class. Practice is from 3:30 until 6:30 on May 16—May 19, 2011.D. Dress for the session is tennis shoes and comfortable clothing (shorts). No halter tops or athletic braswithout shirts to cover them. No Mercy cheerleading gear from previous years.E. Be punctual for sessions. You are expected to be dressed out and on the floor by 4:15. If not, you aretardy.IV.COMPETITIONCandidates will be rated in competition in the areas listed below. The candidates with the highest numberof points will be added to the basketball OLM Cheerleaders. The final day of judging will be Thursday,May 19, in the OLM gym from 4:00 PM until finished (no later than 7:00). The attire for Wednesday andthe Thursday is a white shirt and black or red shorts. You will be given a number on May 17. This numbermust be on an index card, write large and clearly, and attached to the left leg of your shorts—just below thehip.A. Teacher Recommendations (24 points of total)Prior to the day of tryouts, three of their teachers will rate candidates in the following categories.These will be averaged for the final rating.1. Attendance 6. Honesty2. Attitude 7. Leadership3. Cooperation 8. Maturity4. Dependability 9. Relationship5. Good representative of the school 10. Effort
B. Routine (3 points of total)Candidates will be rated by the coach and judges on their presentation of the routine taught.C. Cheering Ability (23 points of total)1. Candidates will be rated by the coach and instructors or an outside judge on their presentationof their individual cheer. The original cheer must contain one of the jumps that are taught atthe clinic and/or a stunt. (3 points)2. Candidates will be rated in ability on the final day of competition by a committee chosen bythe coach and approved by the principal. The various competition categories will be related tothe candidate prior to the final tryouts. (20 points)D. Jumps (3points of total)Candidates will be required to perform the jumps taught during the clinic.E. Interview (3points of total)Candidates will be interviewed during the clinic.V.
