The main task of GSM-Control is to workas a gateway between GSM environmentat one side (interfacing with GSMenvironment by sending/receiving SMSmessages) and MS Windows environment(by using DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange),OPC (OLE for Process Control)or SQL (Structured Query Language)interfaces) or MXAccess (Wonderwareproprietary interface to access of datain a Galaxy using native ArchestrA datatypes) at another side.communication between GSM-modemsis supported, i.e. remote GSM-modemscan be used instead of GSM phone.The GSM-Control software includes twoMS Windows application programs:GSM-Control Configuration Program(GSMCFG) and GSM-Control CommunicationProgram (GSMCTRL, furtherin the text also GSM-Control). Basically, the data exchange throughGSM-Control can be initiated both fromGSM and MS Windows environments:1. From GSM environment - by sendingSMS message to GSM-Control,where the received message ischecked and processed accordingthe GSM-Control current configuration.The received SMS messagecan contain some data to be transferredvia DDE, OPC, SQL or MXAccessfrom GSM-Control to other MSWindows applications (e.g. to PCoperator interface applications orfield devices through appropriatecommunication servers) or databases.This SMS message receivedcan have the correspondingresponse message configured (alsopossibly containing data valuesobtained by via DDE, OPC, SQL orMXAccess) - in this case GSM-Controlwill respond with SMS messageto the sender.2. From MS Windows environment- when some alarm or event occursin MS Windows application (e.g. inPC operator interface application ordirectly in the field device) and thecorresponding alarm or event conditionis specified in GSM-Control.In this case GSM-Control will sendthe correspondingly configuredSMS message (possibly containingalso some data obtained via DDE,OPC or SQL or MXAccess) to remoteGSM operator or device linked tothis alarm or event condition. Thereceiver of such SMS message canrespond to GSM-Control - for example,send some acknowledgmentSMS message possibly containingsome data for delivery via DDE,OPC, SQL or MXAccess.Moreover, it is possible to send (manuallyor automatically through DDE, OPC orMXAccess) any pre-configured text message(“standard 1-way messages”) fromGSM-Control to remote GSM operatoror device.
