fall 2012<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Descriptions</strong>Home Interior Decorating (Beginning and Advanced)<strong>Program</strong> prepares individuals to work as professional home designers.Topics include interior design basic skills and fundamentals. The 12-hourpracticum in the advanced course allows students to gain hands-onexperience with local designers and designer stores. The two levels ofthe program must be completed sequentially.Locations: SOUpholstery (Beginning and Advanced)This program prepares individuals in the fundamentals and intermediatetechniques of upholstery. Students will bring their own projects andlearn the process for choosing proper padding/fabrics, removing oldupholstery, upholstery measuring/patterns, installation of correct base,cutting/fitting foam cushions, tufting seats and much more. Personalsafety and care of machines and tools will be stressed.Locations: SO, NWInterpreter and TranslatorSpanish Court Interpretation and Translation<strong>Program</strong> provides Spanish/English-speaking professionals training insimultaneous, consecutive, and sight interpretation and translation skills.Courses review skills and knowledge required to prepare students totake the Licensed Court Interpreter examination.Locations: NWPersonal Fitness TrainerPersonal Fitness TrainerThis program is designed to give students the knowledge and understandingnecessary to prepare for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) PersonalTrainer Certification Exam and become an effective personal trainer in thefitness environment. A survey of scientific principles, methodologies, andresearch as applied to exercise and physical fitness. Emphasis on physiologicalresponses and adaptations to exercise. Topics include basic elements ofkinesiology, biomechanics, motor learning and the physical fitness industry.Locations: NEPiano TechnologyIntroduction to Piano TechnologyThis course offers basic training in tuning and repairing pianos. Studentsgain hands-on experience while receiving an overview of unison andtempered tuning, making basic adjustments, and performing basicrepairs. Trainingtopics in construction fundamentals, communication skills, and preparationof professional home inspection reports prepare you to start a homeinspection business.
