In charge of appraising the support forprotected areas and civil society.2004: Nicaragua. Team leader on lessons-learnt evaluation of Danida’s environmental sectorsupport for protected areas (Indio-Maíz and Bosawas) in Nicaragua (with the Ministry ofEnvironment, municipalities, NGOs and indigenous peoples’ organisations).Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras. Co-team leader of review/appraisal of the secondphase of the Danida-supported regional programme with trade unions in Central Americaand the Caribbean, which is implemented by the Danish labour union 3F.2001-04: Adviser in the preparation and follow-up to the 2002 Johannesburg World Summit onSustainable Development and the 2005 UN Summit on Millennium Development Goals(MDGs). This has lead to the establishment of the network “Sustainability Watch”, withnational civil-society networks affiliated from 20 countries in Asia, Africa and LatinAmerica. Focus on advocacy and capacity building efforts. € 5 million granted fromDanida, SIDA, Norway and the EU Commission. Team leader on the pre-appraisal mission concerning Danida’s Sector ProgrammeSupport Document regarding 'Indigenous Peoples in Bolivia'. The grant of US$ 30 millioncontemplates, in particular, a five-year continuation of efforts in the field of land-titling andmanagement of indigenous community territories.2002: Kenya. Review of Danida’s support for the Human Rights, Democracy and GoodGovernance Programme in Kenya. The support has been almost entirely channelledthrough Kenyan NGOs.2001: Russia. <strong>Consult</strong>ant to the Danish Ministry of Environment (DANCEE) with the task ofdesigning a project in support of Kaliningrad’s environmental authorities, promotingsustainable use and conservation of natural resources. The project is designed to stimulatecross-border cooperation with Poland and Lithuania.Palestine. Team leader on three formulation missions in a continuous process to prepare thenew 'Danida Sector Programme in Support of Decentralisation and Indigenous Peoples inBolivia'. The missions focus on indigenous population and the application of the new statereforms.1995: Nicaragua. <strong>Consult</strong>ant to Rambøll on the case study of Nicaragua as part of the thematicevaluation of the impact of the Danida Plan of Action for Environment and Development.Peru. <strong>Consult</strong>ant to Danida on the project review: "PACAYA-SAMIRIA IntegratedProgramme for Development and Conservation". This project works with indigenous peoplesof northern Peru, who inhabit one of the biggest natural reserves in the Amazons.Central America. Invited by the EU Commission (DG-I) to "Perspectivas del Proceso deSan José", a joint Central American and European group of parliamentarians, governmentofficials and experts responsible for drawing up proposals to enhance the dialogue andcooperation programmes between the two regions.Angola. Identification mission to look into the potential for a new programme in Angola,aiming to combine relief aid with development, possibly in a joint programme between theDanish Refugee Council and Ibis (NGO).1994: Peru & Ecuador. <strong>Consult</strong>ant to Danida on the project evaluation: "Inscription and Titling ofNative Communities in Ucayali Region" for indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon. Aproject in Ecuadorian Amazon' near Coco was also appraised.Central America. Leader of a team composed of Danish and Central American consultants,setting out to outline a coherent strategy and programme for Danida's assistance to CentralAmerica's environmental sector. Three issues are highlighted: natural resource management;environmental economics; pollution control and cleaner technology.Central America. Co-leader of a team composed of two desk officers from the EUCommission (DG I) and two independent consultants. Responsible for theregional programme in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras with an annualturnover of approximately USD 5 million and 20 Danish advisers.1984 - 1989: Denmark. Development engineer and project leader at Nokia (former Philips ResearchCentre in Copenhagen. Financial analysis, design and development of custom integratedcircuits (chip) for Philips's cellular phones, which were followed by the manufacturing of theworld's first mobile phone of less than 500 grams.1984 - 1989: Denmark. Member of the Executive Committee of Ibis (Danish NGO, former WorldUniversity Service WUS) overseeing projects in Latin America and Southern Africa (SouthAfrica, Namibia and Mozambique).1983: Nicaragua. Responsible for school construction project for Nicaragua's Ministry ofEducation, implemented in co-operation with the target group by a Danish team livingtogether with local peasant communities.1981 - 1983: Denmark. Adult teacher at Hvidovre Continuation School.Experiences with NGO’sThe section below elaborates upon my NGO experience.Key NGO activities:• 1997-2006. Active involved in the Danish 92 Group, a coalition on sustainable development and themost influential NGO network in Denmark on issues such as trade policy, environmental assistance andmultilateral environmental agreements (Kyoto, biodiversity and follow-up to Rio and JohannesburgSummits). This activity involved participation in numerous international conferences, for instance theWorld Bank-IMF Annual Meeting 2006 in Singapore, the UN hearing with civil society in New Yorkin June 2005 (related to the September 2005 UN Summit), and the Fifth WTO Ministerial Conferencein Cancun 2003.• 2001-2005. Adviser to the network “Sustainability Watch” (see above in CV).• 2002. One of five NGO members of the official Danish delegation, headed by the Prime Minister ofDenmark, to the World Summit of Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. Participated in the Eco-Equity coalition, which included WWF, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Third WorldNetwork, Indonesia Peoples Forum, and others.• 1993-1997. Chairman of the Board of Ibis (former World University Service) after being a regularmember of the board since 1984. Active participation in turning Ibis into one of the largest and mostcapable Danish NGOs (annual turnover increased from DKK 15 million to DKK 180 million duringthese 13 years.
