COUNSELINGCANHELPYOURCHILDMelissa M. Avitia,LCSWOften times parents call or come into my office asking, “Howis counseling going to help my child?” In working withchildren and adolescents, I have come to three conclusionsof what children need in order for counseling to be effective. First itis vital to customize therapy services to their specific developmentallevel, emotional level and personal individual strengths. Second, it ischallenging to address stressful situations (i.e. divorce, peer relationships, tension in family dynamics) as an adult. So to address the same situationsas a child or adolescent is even more painful! Therefore, I believe it isimperative to provide therapy in a more sensitive manner in order tomeet the cognitive and emotional needs of children and adolescents. And lastly, the creative context of providing therapy is significant to yourchild’s response and successful outcome of therapy. Creativity in therapyfor children and adolescents is a key factor to promoting positive lastingchange. With creative interventions, counseling can help your child managedifficulty in their ability to process information, identifying ownpoint of view of the problem, and address their personal struggle withcommunication of sensitive feelings and thoughts. To meet the sensitiveneeds of this population, creative counseling techniques need to betailored to direct and indirect interventions. In addition, when workingwith children and adolescents, I discuss with parents the importance oftheir active participation in counseling services in order to achieve longtermprogress. Positive lasting changes occur as a family unit.Understanding your child’s emotional development level will helpyou understand your child’s perspective and enrich your counselingexperience. To help you do this, I am providing relevant informationbelow as a resource for you when considering counseling services foryour child or adolescent.Counseling for children 3-5 years: Children of this age understandsimple emotions such as angry, sad and happy. Counseling servicesshould be kept to brief sessions 30-45 minutes. Sessions arranged forchildren to be seen with family, as a unit, is usually most effective.Counseling services can be utilized as a means of helping your childlearn how to use their words to describe their feelings instead of usingtemper tantrum behaviors to show their independence. Imaginationis important at this age and can be used as an artistic means ofunderstanding their difficult behaviors through their elaborate stories.Counseling for children 6-8 years: Children of this age have anincreasing understanding of another person’s point of view. Thisallows them to see how their own actions negatively or positivelyimpact other family members. The struggle of expressing emotionsthrough tantrums is still present but becomes more feasible to dowith words. Creative counseling techniques involves teaching skills toemphasize your child’s increased level of concentration and more activeparticipation in the therapy process. Therapy engagement is achievedthrough fun therapeutic interventions used to establish connection andcompassionate understanding of your child’s feelings and behaviors.Counseling for children 9-12 years: Children of this age rangegreatly value friendships. They often respond more to peer pressure. As adolescents reach thirteen, they may become more introspective.Creative counseling interventions can be more direct in addressingstrong feelings such as guilt, anger and happy. Furthermore withthe help of supportive parents and their counselor they will be ableto recognize new situations where they can apply freshly learnedcoping skills to negative behavior patterns.Counseling for children 13-16: Children of this age rangehave increased concentration, self-control and ability to organizethemselves. Through their journey of introspection they fightto be identified separate from their parents and may becomemore argumentative in doing so. Utilizing creative counselinginterventions to enhance their sense of control and security in theirpersonal belief and values is an effective approach. I have foundchildren of this group to be receptive by presenting counselingas a sequence of choices to be made, so that they have theaccountability of personal direction in life.Counseling is most effective when provided to childrenin a supportive environment. Parents need to be willing toactively listen to their child’s perspective, provide validation andcompassionate support in learning effective coping skills. If you are in need of counseling services for your child or adolescent, feelfree to call me for a free phone consultation. I can help you learn creativetechniques that are flexible and responsive to your child’s individualemotional, Melissa social and is more cognitive than level of our functioning. “therapist”.She is sensitive to our needs, shows a trueconcern for our well being, and providesus with positive goals and sound adviceon how to deal with the stresses that werechallenging our daily lives. BREAST CANCERSURVIVORS:NATUROPATHIC THERAPIES TO CONSIDERIN YOUR RECOVERYBy Dr. Anca Martalog, N.D.BREAST CANCER24CELEBRATINGYEARS | WWW.HEALTHFITNESS.USBreast cancer is one of the most important health issues a woman may have to face in herlifetime. Although the condition is more prevalent in the later years of life, youngerwomen cannot afford to ignore it.Breast cancer is one of the most important health issues a woman may have to face in herlifetime. Although the condition is more prevalent in the later years of life, younger womencannot afford to ignore it.There are various naturopathic clinics throughout the world that deal with patientswith breast cancer. They all employ a similar approach, which uses the many modalities ofnaturopathic medicine: homeopathy, botanical medicine, Chinese herbs and acupuncture, clinical nutrition and lifestyle counseling. These therapies focus on a diet geared towardsdetoxification; this is based on the belief that cancer is the result of autointoxication, chemical exposure, stagnation and congestion. Also extensively used are high doses ofsupplements of pancreatic enzymes and antioxidants (free-radical scavengers). Some of themost effective nutrients used to treat breast cancer are as follows:Vitamin D: The risk of fatal breast cancer in major cities is inversely proportional to theintensity of local lightVitamin E: improves the hormones that protect against breast cancer.Vitamin K: breast tumors respond very well to vitamin K treatment.Calcium: studies have shown that reduced vitamin D and Calcium consumptionincreased the incidence of breast cancer from 37% to 75%.Selenium: high Selenium levels slow down the development of breast cancer.Iodine: breast cancer is associated with an under active thyroid gland and lower thannormal levels of thyroid hormone in the blood (of which Iodine is a part of ).Other nutrients with anti-breast cancer properties are: vitamin A and Beta-carotene,vitamin B, B6, carnitine, vitamin C, Magnesium, garlic, green tea and evening primrose. There are also numerous botanicals, homeopathic remedies and Chinese herbs that havealso been shown to be effective in the battle against breast cancer. Further, there are manyindividualized treatments (such as oxygen therapy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, etc.) that canproduce results against breast cancer. An individualized program is always recommended, because all the above-mentioned modalities can come together and effectively fight breastcancer. It is important to note that, as with any other life-threatening diseases, it is much easier toprevent breast cancer than it is to treat it. This is, essentially, the area in which naturopathicmedicine focuses all its energy and obtains excellent results. As a survivor, you might want toinvestigate further how naturopathic methods can help you in your natural recovery. Are you ready to start your natural recovery to optimal health? BREAST HEALTH- DISPELLING FEARSBy Jan Hasak(The information contained in this article does not constitute medicaladvice; please consult a physician if you have questions about breasthealth issues raised in this article.)The primary, if not number one, concern of American womenis that they will develop breast cancer. At least that was thebiggest fear of those who answered a government survey in 2005.Dread of the disease lurks in the hearts of those who have witnessedtheir friends and relatives die of it. Adverse breast health also has apsychosocial component, fueled by fears of loss of femininity, beauty, youthful appearance, sex appeal, marital intimacy and other factorsvalued in Western culture.Women need not fear the disease as they have in the past. I had it at43, and again at 52. Now at 56 I am cancer free, living a full life. Notonly do I garden, enjoy my sons, and write, but I also volunteer for theAmerican Cancer Society and the National Lymphedema Network, anorganization dedicated to helping people with lymphedema, a swellingthat can be caused by cancer surgery or radiation. Helping others takesmy mind off my plight. While in 2009 new cases of invasive breast cancer in the U.S. arepredicted by the American Cancer Society to be 192,370 and deaths40,170, the good news is that fewer women are dying of the disease thanin prior years. New treatments have revolutionized patient care, theresult of multiple clinical trials testing new chemo regimens and targetedtherapies such as Herceptin, Tykerb, Avastin, and aromatase inhibitors.Early detection also plays a role: the sooner the disease is found, thesooner it can be treated before it spreads. Mammograms, clinicalcheckups, and self-exams are important prevention tools, especiallystarting at age 40 if no other risks exist.A closer look at breast health reveals that while some risk factorscan’t be changed, including age, genetics, race, and family history, some lifestyle choices can reduce the risk of receiving a breast cancerdiagnosis. One proven factor appears to be obesity. If a woman fallswithin that category (a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or more),she should try to lose weight. Another factor in the breast-cancerriskequation is exercise: swimming, walking, climbing and joggingexemplify the kind of aerobic activities that are beneficial to breasthealth.Women who never bore children, and those who gave birth totheir first child after 30, face a slightly higher risk of breast cancer.Being pregnant multiple times in her twenties improves breasthealth for women, perhaps because pregnancy reduces the totalnumber of lifetime menstrual cycles. Those using birth control pills have a slightly greater risk ofbreast cancer than women who never used them. A doctor canelaborate on the risks and benefits of birth control pills.Another factor shown to increase the risk of breast canceris long-term use of progesterone hormone therapy (PHT) orestrogen replacement therapy (ERT). Again, a knowledgeablephysician should be able to discuss the pros and cons of usingthese types of hormone therapies. One suggestion might be to usethe lowest effective dose for the shortest period of time necessary.Breast-feeding may slightly lower breast cancer risk, particularlyif it lasts 1½ to 2 years. This could be because breast-feeding lowers awoman’s total number of menstrual periods, as does pregnancy.Studies have shown that use of alcohol increases the risk of beingdiagnosed with breast cancer. Women who consume two to five drinksdaily have about 1½ times the risk of women who don’t drink. Foroptimum breast health experts suggest limiting drinks to one a day, preferably only two to three times a week.If a close family member had breast cancer, the woman should makesure she is monitored more closely, and ask her doctor if she shouldbe checked for the BRCA-1 or -2 gene and if she is a good candidatefor daily tamoxifen or some other preventative drug, or even forpreventative surgery. It is important to remember that while breast health should bemonitored regularly, there is no need to obsess over it or fear it to thepoint that activities like work and parenting get shoved aside. In otherwords, we should enjoy life! A breast cancer diagnosis is not the end ofthe world.Women are encouraged to take charge of their lives and dispel themyths that might be keeping them paralyzed in fear of their breasthealth going awry.A former attorney, Jan Hasak authored Mourning Has Broken:Reflections on Surviving Cancer (Xulon Press 2008). In this memoir sheshares her long journey through two bouts with breast cancer.Listed on the National Cancer Survivor Day Speaker’s Bureau roster,Ms. Hasak addresses myriad audiences, tackling topics from cancer andlymphedema to the benefits of exercise and writing. She especially seeksto share her experiences with fellow cancer survivors.Ms. Hasak is currently penning a work called The Pebble Path, aninspirational allegory of her cancer ordeal, interlaced with poetry. To learn more, please visit her website at www.janhasak.com. NATURAL HEALTH:SELENIUM – SHOULD WE TAKE IT?By Harriet Denz-PenheyBREAST CANCERSELENIUM is one of the minerals that are essential tohealth and it is a problem for those of us where our soils are deficient. There is much in the complementary health literature that says thatselenium can prevent cancer, but is that the case? What does the researchreally say and what could that mean for each one of us?Selenium is found in cereals, meat, poultry, seafood and eggs, but theamount depends very much on where the food is grown and whether theland is selenium deficient. When the soils are deficient then the plantscannot take it up into their cells and when animals eat those plants thenthey become deficient also.26CELEBRATINGYEARS | WWW.HEALTHFITNESS.USSelenium acts as an antioxidant and helps to protect the body fromfree radicals that damage the cells. Studies on animals have shownconsistent results. Selenium is needed to reduce tumor size, inhibitcell growth and the development of troublesome new cancerous cells, encourages those troublesome cells to self-destruct and improvesimmune function.Epidemiological studies have shown that there is a strong relationshipbetween selenium availability and rates of cancer. The higher theselenium availability, the less cancer in the population of people who livein that area (up to a certain point - beyond that point too much seleniumis toxic. However there are only a few places in the world where this is aproblem, with some parts of China being one of them.)There have not been enough studies of a high enough quality for theCancer Councils around the world to definitively say there is a cause andeffect between higher selenium intake and lower cancer. However thosestudies that have been done are very promising. They show a cancerreduction of nearly 50% overall with effects in breast cancer and verystrong effects in prostate cancer. In the meantime, what does this mean for the ordinary person in thestreet, or one who might have a brush with cancer? Do we take it or not? That will depend on where you are in the world. If you are in a placewith very high selenium in the ground that provides your food then youwon’t need to take it. A good rule of thumb is to find out if the farmersin the district need to add it to their stock food. If the animals that eatthe grass in your district need it then you do too. If you live in a placelike Australia or New Zealand then you almost certainly need it, as thesoil is very selenium deficient. If you are unsure then you won’t go wrongeating a couple of Brazil nuts each day. Brazil nuts are the natural form ofselenium and are good to add to your daily food intake. For those who choose to supplement at the levels that you are allowedto buy from your chemist or pharmacy there is certainly no harm to bedone as long as you take the quantity recommended for you and theremay be huge benefits. You won’t ever know if you are one of the peoplewho don’t get the cancer because you supplement, but that is whatprevention is all about. However don’t expect selenium to be a magic bullet. It is just one ofthe aspects of good health. To maximize health you need to do morethan just take one supplement. You need to do at least 3 hours moderateexercise weekly, to eat lots of fresh dark colored vegetables and have fruitdaily. Reduce the levels of sugar, bread, pasta, rice and cakes in your dietand keep those fizzy soda drinks to special occasions only. This is a goodstart.Natural good health requires that you take charge of your life andmake the decision to those things that contribute to an improvedimmune function and an improved sense of wellbeing. So don’t justthink about it. Make the decision to start making all of the little changesthat will improve your health now.Dr Harriet Denz-Penhey is an internationally recognized healthresearcher who has done groundbreaking research into patient self carein serious illness. WHY BLOODMICROSCOPY ISIMPORTANT FORYOUR HEALTH LIFE SOURCES®, INC.By Dr. Andrea McCreeryLiving Blood Microscopyknown as Vital Hematologyis a medical tool since theearly 1600’s and for the past 10+years has made an astoundingcomeback to assist those whowant to get “to the root of theircondition”. This valuable toolenables the viewing of livingblood from under the microscopeat various magnifications. Somepractitioners refer to it as LivingBlood Analysis or NutritionalMicroscopy. While Vital Hematologyenables the practitioner toassess the cellular health andinternal milieu (the homeostasisor “balance” of health) of theImmune System, we are able tosee pleomorphic bacterial formsmutate from a high-powered, binocularmicroscope that includesDIC (Differential InterferenceMicroscopy).Observing our blood under themicroscope is the equivalent to thediscovery of the Rosetta Stone. Inviewing this beautiful substancewe are able to decode and evaluatemany hidden messages and factorsin which it contains right beforeyour eyes. We are able to study andevaluate the shape and structure ofthe red and white blood cells andtheir overall condition. The bloodplasma is also carefully analyzedfor clots, parasites, fungus andother possible microorganisms.Over 40 nutritional deficienciesand risk factors can be observed, some of which includes;(damaged blood cells)bowel problems<strong>Health</strong>y blood consists ofsingle, round red cells of equalsize and shape, active white cellsin the correct proportion, correctnumber of single platelets, andclean plasma. Most patients haveno concept of what their bloodlooks like or how it affects theirstate of health. Seeing their bloodhelps them understand theircondition and enables them tomonitor their recovery and gainfeedback about their progress.Science is very clear about theimpact nutritional deficiencieshave on the red blood cell sizeand shape. Red cell morphologyrelated to nutrition is consistentlydocumented in hematologytextbooks. For example, overacidificationand/or oxidation ofred blood cells cause a deficiencyand malabsorption due to overuseof pharmaceuticals. Even overthe-countermedications result inacanthocytes, a red blood cell withunevenly distributed spikes aroundthe cell wall indicating liver stress.Observing such cell variation is adaily occurrence for practitionersof Vital Hematology.Showing a patient their bloodand describing the nutritionaldeficiency related to the variouscell types educates the patientsabout their blood, how theirbody works, and about theirnutrition including most of all, their functioning (or lack of )a healthy/performing immunesystem. This educative role of VitalHematology/Blood Microscopyempowers the patient and helpsmotivate them to make thechanges necessary to return tohealth. Viewing specific variationsfrom normal to an abnormalsize in both red cells andNeutrophils (white bloodcells) and other white bloodcells which all contribute toassisting different infections, allows for specific nutritionalprotocols to be developedfor each patient and for thepatient to understand whythey are making dietarychanges, eating healthierfoods and taking certainsupplements to increase theiroverall immune system’sability to return to anincreased state of wellness.Viewing the whiteblood cells and the plasmaallows the practitioner tofurther assess the patient’s healthstatus and determine the mostappropriate steps to facilitatea return to healthy function.Living Blood Microscopy, orVital Hematology, a name weprefer, is a tool that allows specific, individualized assessment of apatient’s health status. It enablesthe practitioner to develop specificprotocols for each patient whileeducating and empowering thepatient. It is a procedure that ishighly valued by practitioners andpatients alike.Andrea McCreery, Ph.D.,CNC., Certified Micro-AnalysisPractitionerPresident/FounderLife Sources, Inc.(916)-536-99305006 Sunrise Blvd., #101Fair Oaks, CA 95628www.life-sources.com<strong>OCT</strong>OBER EDITION 201027HEALTH & NUTRITION

PET HEALTHCELEBRATINGWHAT ISCANINEBLOAT?Bloat refers to the bloating of the stomach. Essentially itis a build up of gas in the stomach which is unable to bereleased. Bloat with Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV)occurs when the stomachfills with gas and twists 180 to 360 degrees on its axis between theesophagus and duodenum or the entrance and exit parts of the stomach.Bloat is a very serious problem in large breed dogs. Whencombined with the complications of GDV, bloat is a leading cause ofdeath of dogs, second only to cancer. The exact cause of bloat is still unknown. Generally, it is believed thatexcessive eating and drinking of water followed by exercise can causebloat. It is thought that exercise causes food or fluid in the stomach tocause a build up of gas. The severity of the conditions is more seriouswhen the stomach twists upon itself within the abdomen in a clockwiserotation causing the inlet and outlet of the stomach as well as blood vesselswhich supply the stomach to become constricted at both ends. Asa result, the constriction will cause the stomach tissue to die. In a veryshort time, the stomach becomes restricted of nutrients and oxygen. Ifnot treated, the dog can die.34By Rosie AllenDog Got Tartar?Independent researcher seeks dogowners to participate in dog tartar studythat quantifies how long it takes for specialnatural substance used at home to removetartar from teeth.Call 916-649-8323 for detailsBest time to reach: 9-10 p.m.OR send email with contact info toDrDonna@fastermac.netLimited number of participants accepted.Enrollment starts Nov. to Dec. 2010YEARS | WWW.HEALTHFITNESS.USWHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CANINE BLOAT?- Anxiousness, restlessness - Distended abdomen- Attempting to vomit - Excessive drooling- Whining - Pale gums- Increase in heart rate - Difficult breathingWHAT CAUSES BLOAT?The stomach becomes filled with gas and because of several possiblefactors; the dog is unable to relieve the pressure. Bloat, with GDV, iswhen the stomach goes into a twist. This closes both the esophagus andpylorus, preventing the dog from relieving the gas pressure which canquickly build up after a large meal. This condition is extremely fatal, causing shock, coma and eventually death. Like many other conditionswhich affect our dogs, the actual cause of bloat is still unknown. Severalfactor seem to contribute to a dogs chances of getting bloat.- Stress - Eating or drinking too fast.- Having a large deep chest - Elevated food bowls- Hereditary - Disposition- Exercise before and immediately after eatingARE ALL DOGS AT RISK CANNINE BLOAT?Canine bloat and GDV usually only affects large breed dogs, butsmaller dogs are still susceptible.. It is thought that some lines of breedsare genetically at a higher risk. Though bloat can occur in puppies, itis a condition which usually occurs in adult dogs. Furthermore, maledogs are more likely to suffer from bloat than female dogs. Here is a listof some breeds that have a higher chance of being effected by bloat andGDV.- German Shepherd - Great Dane - Standard Poodle- Rottweiler - Akita - Bloodhound- Great Pyrenees - Irish Setter - Old English Sheepdog- Boxer - Golden Retriever - Irish Wolfhound- St. Bernards - Labrador Retriever - Newfoundland- DobermanWHAT IS THE TREATMENT OF DOG BLOAT?Canine bloat is a very serious problem. If you suspect your dog hasbloat, contact your vet immediately. Every second counts! If caught anddiagnosed quick enough, initial treatment will involve inserting a tube ortochar in to the stomach wall to remove the gas. If necessary, the vet willthen operate, attempting to untwist the stomach. Secondary treatmentwill involve treating shock, dehydration, fatigue, and other complicationsresulting from the distension of the stomach.IS THERE ANY WAY TO PREVENT DOG BLOAT?Prevention of bloat can be difficult. Because there are so many possiblecauses for this condition, prevention must be examined on an individualbasis. If you have a dog that is at risk there are a couple of thingsthat you can do to decrease the chances of this fatal condition. Sincebloat is believed to be connected with genetics and hereditary, thesepreventive measures can only decrease the chances of bloat.- Do not overfeed. Feed 2-3 small meals a day.- Do not use elevated food bowls- Do not allow your dog to drink large amounts of water after eating.- Add an enzyme product to your dogs food- Keep emergency veterinary contact handy- Gastroplexy surgeryThs article only provides BASIC information about canine bloat. HEALTH & NUTRITIONSTRONTIUM -THE OSTEOPOROSIS CURE THEY WANT TO BURYExactly 100 yearsago, a Germanscientist foundthat strontium (not to beconfused with strontium 90, theradioactive isotope), one of themost abundant minerals on ourplanet, was uniquely effective instimulating rapid bone formation.Ten years later, another Germanresearcher concluded that, whilecalcium itself was effective inmineralizing bone, its effectivenesswas magnified exponentially whencombined with this particularmineral. It took until 1952 for thesedata to be carried forward. Then,a Cornell University researchreport confirmed the earlierfindings. In 1959, the MayoClinic achieved astonishinglygood results in applying thisresearch to patients with severeosteoporosis, and in 1986 acomprehensive and detailed reportappeared, confirming strontium’seffectiveness at building bone andbone density.Sadly, all of this research wasignored until about five yearsago when suddenly, there was analmost explosive growth of interestin this mineral. Since then, morethan 400 peer reviewed articles36CELEBRATINGhave been published confirmingthe near miraculous effects ofstrontium.Strontium, chemically similarto calcium, and absorbed inrelatively similar amounts, isfound in soil, air, water, fish, andnearly all plants. It is the mostabundant mineral in seawater. Weall normally consume one to fivemilligrams of this mineral dailywithout ever being aware of it.Now pure strontium ischemically unstable, but as foundin nature, this mineral is neverpure. In general, it is found asstrontium carbonate, strontiumcitrate, and strontium gluconate, among other compounds. Our bodies have two opposingforces at work. The builders andthe destroyers. This is normaland vital to living, but when thedestroyer begins to dominate,we run into trouble. That is whathappens in osteoporosis. Here wehave a developing dominance ofthe osteoclasts, the cells that breakbone down, over the osteoblasts, the cells that build bone up.And as discovered a century ago, strontium and calcium, workingtogether, form a powerful weaponagainst osteoporosis, with acombined effect of slowing theYEARS | WWW.HEALTHFITNESS.USBy Werner Knoeppdevelopment of osteoclasts andaccelerating the development oftheir beneficial adversaries, theosteoblasts.Big Pharma, never to beupstaged by nature, has beenworking feverishly to developa product they can patent. What they’ve come up with is acompound they call strontiumranelate. This is nothing more thannatural strontium combined with asynthetic compound called ranelicacid, which doesn’t do a wholelot more than make a patentableproduct. There have been a coupleof very well conducted studieson its effects. They showed verypositive results from the use of thispatented product, but nothingsuperior to the natural mineralsproperly used. But the heavyhitters in this field are still the bigmoney makers the pharmaceuticalsare foisting off on us in theform of intensely marketedbisphosphonate drugs. They don’twork nearly as well as plain oldnatural strontium and calcium, taken together in relatively equalamounts, and they are gettingnotorious for producing somehorrendous side effects. The March 2010 Journal ofBone Mineral Research warns thatthe anti-osteoporosis drugs; thebisphosphonate drugs, suppressthe ability of strontium to helprebuild bone - simply because thesedrugs essentially kill the bone inthe first place. However, when awoman stops taking these patentmedications, bone remodeling cancommence again after a period ofat least six months has elapsed.Another study conducted in theUnited Kingdom clearly shows thesuperiority of natural strontiumand calcium combinations tothe currently overhyped patentmedicines, while leaving inquestion the length of time itwill take for bone remodeling toresume after a patient has stoppedtaking bisphosphonate drugs andbegun to substitute a regimen ofcalcium and natural strontium.Based on all the recent studiesconducted on this subject, it wouldreally seem natural to concludethat this mineral combination is anabsolute must have for every postmenopausal woman. For those who want to begintaking these natural productsfor themselves, current researchseems to indicate that 340 to 680milligrams of elemental strontiumprovides the best results. It is veryvery important to take at least anequal amount of calcium alongwith this mineral, and ideally theamount of calcium taken shouldexceed the strontium intake. For anyone thinking abouttrying this, a word of advice: Donot take calcium and strontium atthe same time. Wait at least threehours between ingestion of thesetwo supplements - they tend toconflict with each other if takentogether. “You can easily have direct contact with the Creator after the firstfew exercises,” said Dr. Mark Virkler, the creator of the series. He’s thefounder of Christian Leadership University & Communion with GodMinistries in Buffalo, New York. He’s not talking about getting a word here or there in a blue moonor in a decade. He’s talking about daily communication that unlocks thebeauty of the relationship with the Lord that we were all meant to have. And he’s had thousands of people experience this on more than just arudimentary level. It’s the real McCoy.Scripture says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, andthey follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will neverperish.…” ( Jn. 10:27,28 NASB) The Bible is full of people whoheard God’s voice. What’s the difference between olden times andnow? Perhaps it is just technique. But what about the possibilitythat the communication is from the other side, and not the Lord, you may ask?PRAYER“To receive the pure word of God, it is very important that yourheart is properly focused as you become still. Your focus is the sourceof the intuitive flow. If you fix your eyes upon Jesus, the intuitive flowcomes from Jesus. But if you fix your gaze upon a desire of your heart, the intuitive flow comes out of that desire. To have a pure flow you mustbecome still and carefully fix your eyes upon Jesus,” he said.CAN YOU HEARGOD’S VOICE DAILY?Absolutely!By Dr. Donna (ret.)Have you ever listened to a friend describe a vision or dream thatcould only be a Divine one, and then thought to yourself, “Whycan’t I get dreams or visions? Am I such a bad person or just notworthy?”Maybe you’ve often wondered why a pastor of a church is the onlyone that has visions or hears from God, and what you have to do to havethem, too.Or maybe you’ve wondered how you can get closer to God and havea relationship with the Creator that is closer than any relationship youhave now with any of your friends. If so, then the CD Series, How to Hear God’s Voice is your answer. Now think about this for just a second. If you had daily conversationswith the Lord, what would you talk about? Would you ask a lot ofquestions or primarily listen? Do you think those conversations wouldbe filled with inspiration, revelation, new witty ideas that could makeyou money, give you encouragement, and fill you with His compassion, love and hope? Is it possible that having these types of conversationscould propel your life forward in new directions, exploding them withpower and potential? The fact is that God’s voice is within us. Sometimes we hear and feelit…although many of us have lost the ability to recognize His voice.“Although we have the Biblical promise – “My sheep hear My voice,”too many believers are starved for the intimate relationship that alonecan satisfy the desire of their heart,” he said.According to Dr. Virkler, there are four major keys to this process.“To hear God’s voice, tune your radio to SVSJ; Stillness, Vision,Spontaneity and Journaling.Key # 1 – Quiet your mind so you can hear God’s voice - easiest wayis by doing key #2 (Heb. 2:1-2).Key # 2 - Look for vision as you pray - see yourself together with Jesusin a comfortable Gospel setting. Fix your eyes on Jesus (Heb. 12:2)Key # 3 – Recognize God’s voice as spontaneous/flowing thoughtswhich light upon your mind ( Jn. 7:37-39).Key # 4 - Write down the spontaneous flow of thoughts and picturesthat come to you (Rev. 1:10-1l).But there’s more to it than four principles. It’s the details that heexplains that allow you to go from the state of “Sure, Jesus is my friend”to “Here’s what He said today…My life has changed.” These details arebased on the story of Habakkuk in the Bible. The series also has an accompanying workbook that can deepen yourexperience to a much richer relationship with the Creator.Highly recommended, this CD series will change a Christian’s lifeto one where you may think, “Why didn’t I have this information yearsago?” It could be the biggest boost to your spiritual health in your entirelifetime.Get the series now; don’t wait. Forexample, whentrying to curbovereating, behaviormodificationtechniqueswould tellyou that every time you want toeat when you’re not hungry, youshould find something else todo, i.e., go for a walk, read, finda healthier food to snack on, etc.Teaching people to change theactions that they take can helpthem get through a moment, however, the challenge with merelychanging the behavior is that ifwe never address the reason whywe want to eat when we’re nothungry in the first place, we willhave to continue finding substitutebehaviors the rest of our lives. To me, this feels like a lot ofwork not to mention, in a sense,it’s just plain avoidance of theissue. Now don’t get me wrong, behavior modification programshave worked for many people, and yet, what I have found, isthat many times, merely changingthe behavior isn’t enough to getpeaceful and sustainable results.YEARS | WWW.HEALTHFITNESS.USBy Karen FrechouI believe if you want to endovereating, under exercising or justplain quit treating yourself poorly, you really need to need to stopavoiding and deal with the truth ofwhat’s going on.When I have a client who issimply finding something elseto do instead of eating, I alwaysask why he or she needs to DOanything at all. The typicalresponse goes something like,“Well because, if I don’t dosomething I’ll eat!” (As if the onlytwo choices were overeating ordistracting oneself )! The truth is,that this is the place at which thereexists a BIG choice: to becomeaware or to avoid. That momentof wanting to eat when we’re nothungry holds the answer to what itis that we really want instead of thefood. Because, you see, it’s reallynever about the food. Ever. Whenyou allow yourself the opportunityto find out what it is that youactually want, you can truly beginto change your life, and the foodserves only its true purpose - tonourish you body.Sometimes we find we wantsweetness, or love or comfortor fun and the food seems likea reasonable substitute in themoment, but when we look alittle closer, there’s never a timethat overeating gives us any ofthose things. Food is not love, orjoy or comfort. The truth is it’sa cheap and short lived stand-infor the things we really crave inour lives. When you know whatyou truly crave in your life, putyour thoughts there - on creatingthe things that you want and fillyourself up on them. Be busy withthat, with giving yourself whatyou really want and need. Andthe fuller you are, the less youcrave.
