What is Partnering?

partnerships with suppliers and customers.
The benefits of e-trading (also known as e-commerce)
compared with traditional phone, post or fax solutions

An e-Trading Portal Solution has been implemented
which allows Grafton Group companies to exchange
key business documents such as orders, invoices, credits,

Message formats that can be exchanged include XML (such
as Basda e-build,) Tradacoms, Edifact and CSV, or any
other format with a fixed structure and suitable data
content. Documents can be delivered direct with the
e-trading portal over the Internet using FTP, by email or
through any of the e-trading hubs that operate in the UK
construction industry such as Coins, Causeway, Asite etc.

L&G Forest Products
L&G Forest Products is located on a three-acre site some
four miles north east of Maidstone. L&G is a specialist
supplier of all wood products to the construction industry.
It was set up in 1999 by managing director Jeff Foot. Since
then it has grown impressively and today employs 24 staff
with a turnover in excess of £10 million. A year ago L&G
moved to its current site, a fully refurbished premises and
yard that gives further room for expansion.
L&G’s principal customers are large building contractors,
civil engineers and allied sub-contractors, working within
approximately 70 miles of Maidstone.
The list of projects supplied by L&G is impressive and
includes White City, Blue Water and Lakeside shopping
centres, Wembley Stadium and the new Eurostar terminal
at St Pancras station. The company will also be
supplying timber products for the 2012 Olympics
construction projects.
The business continues to trade independently within
Buildbase, but outside the divisional structure. As part of a
larger organisation it is hoped to expand this specialist arm
to other parts of the UK.

Hendricks Lovell Ltd has been trading for over twenty
years. Initially part of A R Hendricks Group, the
company became a member of Grafton Group in
March 1997. Trading from sites in Hayes,
Middlesex, they stock exceptionally large quantities
of heavyside materials and specialist products.
Through their specialist divisions Drainline Supplies
and Timberline, they also supply most civil
engineering and timber requirements.
Hendricks Lovell Ltd, with its core business coming
from national contractors and specialist
subcontractors is committed to the Builders Merchants
Federation Charter. The business provides a number
of additional services, backed up by an area sales
representative with specialist knowledge of bricks,
drainage and timber.

Drainline Supplies is a distributor of municipal
castings and allied products offering large stocks of
ductile, cast iron and steel covers to both British and
European standards. In addition, we have a steel
fabrication department that can manufacture manhole
ladders and covers to order.
We are a main distributor of Aco linear drainage
and both Polypipe sewer and civils products. Large
stocks of each are kept and we are able to offer our
customers a complete take-off service.
Our commitment to growth now sees us stocking a
complete range of street furniture together with cast
iron drainage for above and below ground. Drainline

Timberline is a specialist distributor of timber and
sheet materials offering large stocks of both soft and

Treatment, grading, cutting and machining facilities
are available together with a moulding profile
matching service. Timberline is also able to supply
allied products such as windows, doors, joinery
and metalwork.

environment could endanger the quality of life of future generations.
Governments and other organisations in many countries are now more aware of the impact

AUDIT THE POLICY ON A REGULAR BASIS AND REPORT THE RESULTS OF ANY SUCH AUDIT TO THE
MAIN BOARD AT THE DIRECTORS MEETING HELD EVERY TWO MONTHS.
The Health, Safety and Environmental manager will:

WHAT IS THE FSC AND WHO SUPPORTS IT?
The Forest Stewardship Council is a world-wide, non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It
promotes the responsible growing, harvesting and on-going replanting of timber. FSC is supported
by Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, and WWF International. You may find specifications from
local authorities or architects asking for FSC-certified timber: you can obtain FSC timber and
wood products from Buildbase.
HOW DOES IT HELP THE FORESTS?
Buying timber with the FSC label helps you to say ‘No’ to the destruction of the world’s forests and
‘Yes’ to responsibly-produced timber and wood products. Timber carrying an FSC label can be
traced back to the well-managed forest it came from. Those forests, and all the stages in the
timber’s journey to Buildbase, have been independently checked and given separate certificates.
You can track timber back to the forest producer, by following this chain of FSC certificates - the
‘chain of custody’- using the certificate numbers. This unique system makes sure your timber comes
from a well managed source.

ABOUT THE PEFC
The PEFC Council (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is an
independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in 1999 which promotes
sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification. The PEFC provides an
assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the
sustainable management of forests. PEFC is a global umbrella organisation for the assessment of
and mutual recognition of national forest certification schemes developed in a multi-stakeholder
process. These national schemes build upon the inter-governmental processes for the promotion of
sustainable forest management, a series of on-going mechanisms supported by 149 governments
in the world covering 85% of the world's forest area. PEFC has in its membership 32 independent
national forest certification systems of which 25 to date have been through a rigorous assessment
process involving public consultation and the use of independent consultants to provide the
assessments on which mutual recognition decisions are taken by the membership. Some 30
schemes account for nearly 200 million hectares of certified forests producing millions of tonnes of
certified timber to the marketplace making PEFC the world's largest resource of certified timber.
The other national members schemes are at various stages of development and are working
