ACADEMIC PROGRAMSBaccalaureate degrees normally may be completed in four yearsby a student attending classes on a full-time (15 or more hours/semester) basis. Associate degrees normally may be completedin two years by students attending classes on a full-time basis.Some programs lead to certificates rather than diplomas, andthe length <strong>of</strong> these programs varies.All associate and baccalaureate degree programs include twomajor components: 1) <strong>University</strong> Core Curriculum and 2) specialization.Specific requirements for each program aredescribed in this bulletin.Requirements for graduate programs may be found in the graduatestudies section. Master’s degree programs are designed primarilyfor working pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Courses frequently are scheduledin the late afternoon or evening hours to accommodatestudents who hold full-time employment. Some graduate coursesare available as partial or complete distance education.Master’s degree programs are designed to be completed in twoyears <strong>of</strong> full-time study or three to four years <strong>of</strong> part-time study.The Doctoral <strong>of</strong> Nursing Practice (DNP) program can be completedin a year and one-half <strong>of</strong> full-time study or three years <strong>of</strong>part-time study.The Liberal Arts Center <strong>of</strong>fers state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art instructionalareas and <strong>of</strong>fices for the College <strong>of</strong> Liberal Arts. Included arethe Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. andStephen S. Pace Galleries, Helen Mallette Studio Theatre,Clifford and Ruth Kleymeyer Lecture Hall, Anna LeeHamilton Music Studio, Scripps-Howard Center for MediaStudies (which includes the William R. Burleigh MediaResources Center, the Scripps-Howard Digital Arts Laboratory,and the Scripps-Howard Video Production Complex),Cynderella McDowell Miller Foreign Language Laboratory, adistance learning classroom, WSWI Radio Station, and severalclassrooms equipped with instructional technology to enhancelearning.The Robert D. Orr Center is a classroom and <strong>of</strong>fice buildinghousing many <strong>of</strong> the student services departments. Offices <strong>of</strong>the English Department are located there, along with theOffices <strong>of</strong> Admission, Student Financial Assistance, Registrar,Counseling, Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research, theComputer Center and Telecommunications Services, CareerCounseling, Career Services and Placement, and the BusinessOffice, including the Cashier. Students may pay fees and cashchecks at the cashier’s window on the lower level.UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATIONPUBLIC AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICESIn addition to its academic programs for students, the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers many cultural, recreational, and social programsto students and the general public. Continuing educationclasses, musical productions, guest lectures, athletic events,and theatrical performances are open to the public.Many faculty members perform research services and are consultantsto schools, business, industry, and governmental agencies.Information is available in the Office <strong>of</strong> News andInformation Services.UNIVERSITY FACILITIESThirteen major buildings, plus apartments and suite-style residencehalls housing about 3,000 students, are on the 1,400-acrecampus, located west <strong>of</strong> downtown Evansville.The Support Services Building, located near the USIFoundation Office, houses Distribution Services, ProcurementServices, Risk Management and Safety, and other administrative<strong>of</strong>fices.The Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Center is a classroom and <strong>of</strong>fice buildinghousing the College <strong>of</strong> Nursing and Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>University</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Medicine Evansville is located onthe third floor <strong>of</strong> the facility. Features <strong>of</strong> the Health Pr<strong>of</strong>essionsCenter include the 450-seat Mitchell Auditorium, the CharlesE. Day Learning Resource Center, a dental hygiene clinic anddental laboratory, lecture rooms, classrooms, instructional laboratories,seminar rooms, and faculty <strong>of</strong>fices. Space in the lowerlevel includes the Food and Nutrition Laboratory, TelehealthCenter, classrooms for health services, a human performancelaboratory, and the Student Health Center.The Physical Activities Center (PAC) provides instructionalspace for physical education and recreation programs as well as<strong>of</strong>fices for the Athletics Department and Physical EducationDepartment. Included in the building are the aquatics area,specialized physical education and service facilities, classrooms,locker rooms and team rooms, and multi-purpose activity areas.The PAC has a seating capacity <strong>of</strong> 3,600 and serves as thehome court for indoor sports programs.The Recreation and Fitness Center provides a wide variety <strong>of</strong>programs and services supportive <strong>of</strong> a wellness lifestyle; a44,000 sq. ft. addition to the building opened in 2009. TheRFC features a state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art exercise and weight-trainingarea; two wooden courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton;an elevated four-lane jogging track; an activity room forgroup exercise classes; and lockers and showers. The additionhas a rock climbing tower and an eight-foot-tall climbing wall.It also has two group exercise rooms, a game room, rooms dedicatedto stretching, a larger cardio room, a combat room withpunching bags and wrestling mats, a health assessment room,and additional <strong>of</strong>fice space. Students, faculty, and staff canenjoy leisure time on their own or with <strong>University</strong> friends.The Science Center adjoins the Wright AdministrationBuilding. In addition to laboratories and classrooms, theScience Center houses <strong>of</strong>fices for the Pott College <strong>of</strong> Scienceand Engineering (for Engineering, see the Business andEngineering Center). The Torrington Science ResearchLaboratory and the Black Beauty Coal Chemistry Laboratoryprovide state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art instructional areas for chemistry.
