United Mexican StatesSession of the United NationsEconomic and Social Council (ECOSOC)June 15 th – 16 th , 2007Delegate: Jan MeuelPolicy PaperMigration and DevelopmentAgenda Topics:1. Adoption of the agenda2. Human Rights Violations3. Decrease undocumented migration, find legal solutions for a controlledmigration and reduce the pressure for people to migrate1. Adoption of the agendaThe United Mexican States consider the control of the current stream of migrants in thewhole world as one of the greatest and most important challenges of the internationalcommunity. Being a country of incoming, transit and outgoing migration we see it as ourgreat responsibility to find international standards and measures in order to handle themain issues concerning migration: Improve the situation of the migrants and secure theirhuman rights. Control undocumented migration, find legal solutions for outgoing migrantsand reduce the pressure for people in their origin country to migrate.2. Human Rights ViolationsThere is a huge immigration to Mexico mostly from the south, staying in this countrytemporarily or definite. On the other hand, Mexicans represent the biggest migrantcommunity in the USA and it is still increasing. It is our responsibility, both to secure thehuman rights of people on Mexican territory, and to plead for the rights of Mexicanmigrants in the USA.

3. Decrease undocumented migration, find legal solutions for a controlledmigration and reduce the pressure people to migrateAt the same time we seek to work closer both with the Guatemalan and the US-Americangovernment in order to improve the situation of the migrants, to reduce undocumentedmigration and to find legal solutions for people looking for better economic opportunitiesoutside of their home country. As well, we intend to create more jobs, especially for peoplefrom remote areas having less economic resources. We consider the economicdevelopment in less integrated ares as the the most important goal not only for Mexico butalso for the whole international community. Besides, we aim to create a harmonic andpeaceful coexistence of migrants and natives in the migratory streams of the 21 th century.Working together in the context of the United Nations we have to find internationalmeasures in order to improve the living conditions of migrants in their home countries, tocontrol the huge flow of migrants and to reduce undocumented migration.
