The Chairholder has been closely involved with the secretariat as oneof the lead contributors in i) The UK UNESCO Colloquium advising the UK Ambassador to UNESCOand ii) The Policy Brief on the UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks Programme.f) Other(any other activities to report)
53. Future Plans and Development Prospects:Outline of action plan for the next biennium and short/medium and long-term developmentprospects. Please do not hesitate to refer to difficulties that the Chair has experienced(Not exceeding 300 words)In the immediate future a project with the University of Namibia (UNAM) to repatriate asignificant collection of policy documents relating to Namibia’s future education aspirations andplans from the pre Independence period through to full independence in 1990. This valuablecollection will supplement and enhance the University Archive for future research and needs ofscholars. The Chairholder is taking the lead in this project.The aims and objectives of the Chair continue to be as pertinent and necessary in the immediatefuture as they were when established and the success of establishing the Chair especially totrain senior university leaders (both Executive and lay Governors) and managers fromdeveloping countries has been outstanding and beneficial to many nations beyond those towhom it was originally intended. With a number of Vice-Chancellors and Ministers across theglobe having experienced the training initiatives of the University of Bath it bodes well for anequally fruitful future.However, the success of developing training programmes over the past decade has beenrewarded with a fruitful proliferation of outstanding courses now arranged locally particularly insouthern Africa. Whilst taking some measure of credit in what has been achieved through theefforts of the Chair, it is even more satisfying to see the development of leadership andperformance management training progressing successfully in such countries, as South Africa,Tanzania, Malawi, Namibia, Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates, where the Chair haspreviously been involved.It has been the Chair’s intention to encourage more cross border collaboration with the benefit offunding from the Gulf Region assisting the aspirations of those in southern Africa but the globalrecession has curtailed these plans, hopefully for not long.End of the Form
