PREFACEWith funding from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM)Round IV - the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) aims to provideAntiretrovirals (ARV) for 1,37, 000 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in India. Aspart of this program, the Global Fund awarded a grant to an NGO Consortium tocomplement NACO’s efforts in six HIV high prevalence states by providing care andsupport services to clients who will be receiving Anti-retroviral therapy (ART). TheNGO consortium aims to increase the number of NGO sector providers capable ofdelivering high quality care and support services in accordance with the NationalTreatment Guidelines, this will help clients achieve and sustain adherence totreatment for effective antiretroviral therapy. In order to achieve this aim, the NGOconsortium supports the program through improving the capacity of existing Indianhealth care training institutions to provide training and follow-up support to serviceproviders. The NGO consortium is comprised of the Population Foundation of India(PFI), Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (INP+), EngenderHealthSociety (EHS), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Freedom Foundation(FF).EngenderHealth Society recognizes access to treatment education as one of thekey component for improving the quality of life of a person living with HIV. Ourwork aims to build the confidence and skills of individuals to make small changesin their lives and become key actors in managing and integrating their treatmentin their life styles in ways that maximise the overall care and support that theseindividuals and their families can access. EHS recognizes that people living withHIV are critically important partners and that their meaningful involvement isessential to strengthen prevention, care and support and to remove barriers toaccess to information and services. We work closely with people living with HIVto assert their rights to health and to be treated with dignity and respect.EngenderHealth Society also recognizes that adherence to treatment is a lifelong process requiring on-going support and a variety of skills and strategiesto enable clients to overcome the many challenges they may face to continuei
