cooperation, forms an appreciation of the natural
environment, and develops self-esteem in
girls. Girl Scouts encourages our campers to reach
their fullest potential! From learning new skills to
discovering new things to making new friends,
girls have the opportunity to grow at camp,
a safe and nurturing environment.
Think Camp . . . Think
Potential!
PS4POs: (PS for parents only!)
Girl Scouts has long been a leader in providing quality outdoor experiences for girls. We are proud to continue that tradition with
our 2009 summer offerings. We all know girls are spending less and less time in the natural world in this
computer age. You may have heard of the national movement to have “no child left inside.” Research shows that
kids who spend time in the outdoors are more creative, observant, and inquisitive. They demonstrate
stronger critical thinking and problem solving skills, work better cooperatively, and have lower stress levels than their
counterparts who do not get out exploring our planet’s diverse eco-systems. We hope you will take
advantage of the variety of events we have to offer your daughter. Also, for those of you who can,
we hope you will take the opportunity to join her for one of our events.
BLACK HAWK SUMMER FUN DAY CAMP INFO
Learn to Be a Kid Again! Volunteer at Girl Scout Summer Fun Day Programs!
Girl Scout Summer Fun Day Camp programs would not be possible without the dedication of our wonderful volunteers! Here are some ways for you to help.
We will begin placing girls on March 15, 2009.
Adult Coverage
At Girl Scout day camp, we maintain a ratio
of 1 adult for every 6 Daisies and Brownies,
1 adult for every 8 Juniors, and 1 adult for every 10
Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. These adults volunteer
to attend with a girl (or group of girls); they stay with the
girls throughout the day monitoring them, guiding them
through the activities, and assisting, when necessary.
Girls who register with an identified adult coverage
volunteer for the entire session of camp will be
placed first. Girls without adult coverage
will be placed as sufficient adult
coverage is available.
Teen
Volunteers
Needed!
Looking for something to do this summer?
Love day camp but feel too old to come?
Want to help out and have fun with younger girls? Like to do
community service? Then, volunteer as a Kool Aide and help
younger Girl Scouts have a fabulous summer day camp experience!
Teens (entering 8th grade in the fall or older) can help
lead projects, entertain girls, and assist other volunteers
with fun and exciting summer day camp programs. •
Interested? Groovy!! Contact Ella Benson at the Girl
Scout Center in Madison at ellab@girlscoutsofblackhawk.org
or 800.236.2710 X
1163 for an application.
Activity Leaders
Activity Leaders will run a variety of
simple activities for the girls throughout
the day such as hikes, crafts, and games.
Activity Leaders must attend a mandatory training
where they will receive detailed information on
each camp, receive activity instructions, and sign up
for the activity of their choice. By volunteering as an
Activity Leader, one child may attend camp with you free of
charge. Activity Leaders must be comfortable leading a group
of children through activities and will need to be available for the
entire session of a particular camp.
Trainings will be
Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 6:30pm and
Monday, June 15, 2009, at 6:30pm.
These trainings are identical; please attend
the training or your choice.
