2Product description2 Product descriptionThe following are components of the SB735,condensing gas-fired boiler (Fig. 1):2– Boiler block (Fig. 1, item 5) incl. thermal insulationand burner door (Fig. 1, item 4).The boiler block transfers the heat generated by theburner to the heating water. Using correct fill and make-up water 33 Using correct fill and make-up waterThis chapter contains general information about thewater in your heating system.Observe the basic, system-specific requirements forwater quality in Chapter 3.2 "Water quality".3.1 Water descriptionIn your heating system, water is used as heat transfermedium. 3Using correct fill and make-up water3.2 Water qualityAll water contains substances, e. g. Ca (HCO 3 ) 2(calcium hydrogen-carbonate), which may influence thefunction of your heating system. These may lead tocorrosion, scaling and other deposits.Regularly check your water consistency and, ifnecessary, treat your fill and make-up water, to ensurethat your heating system remains economic, functional,operationally reliable and energy efficient.SYSTEM DAMAGECAUTION!through corrosion and scaling because offill and make-up water, which does notcomply with system-specific requirements.• Check with your local heatingcontractor or your water supplycompany regarding the Ca (HCO 3 ) 2concentration (calcium hydrogencarbonate)in your area.• You should treat the fill and make-upwater, if it does not comply with systemspecificrequirements. System start-up 44 System start-upThis chapter explains how you prepare the system foroperation and how to commission the control device andthe burner.4.1 Making the system operationalYou should check the following to prepare the system foroperation:• the system water pressure see Chapter 7.2"Checking and correcting the water pressure",page 13),• whether the main fuel supply shut-off valve is open,• whether the heating system emergency stop switchhas been activated or the boiler room fuse isinserted.Let your specialist show you where the fill valve islocated in the pipework of your system (return).4.2 Commissioning the control deviceand the burnerStart up your boiler via the control device (in thisexample (Fig. 2): 2000 series Logamatic control device).By commissioning the control device, you alsoautomatically commission the burner. The burner canthen be started via the control device. 5System shutdown5 System shutdownThis chapter explains, how you shut down your boiler,the control device and burner. Furthermore, you will findexplanations as to how you can shut down your systemin emergencies.CAUTION!SYSTEM DAMAGEthrough frost.The system can freeze up if it is out of use,e.g. through a shut-down because offault(s).• Protect your heating system againstfrost damage, where temperaturesbelow freezing are expected.• Drain the heating water at the lowestpoint in the system, using the boilerdrain. To do this, open the air ventvalve at the highest point in the system.5.2 Shutting down the system in anemergencyUSER NOTE• Only in an emergency, shut off thesystem via the boiler room fuse orheating system emergency stop switch.In other dangerous circumstances, isolate the main fuelshut-off valve and the electrical power supply of thesystem via the boiler room main fuse or the emergencystop switch for the boiler room (see Chapter 1.3 "Pleaseobserve these safety instructions", page 4).• Shut off the fuel supply at the main fuel shut-off valve.5.1 Shutting down the control device andburnerShut down your boiler via the control device. Correcting burner faults 66 Correcting burner faultsHeating system faults are indicated in the control devicedisplay (Fig. 3, item 2). You will find detailed informationregarding fault displays in the operating instructions ofthe respective control device. 7System maintenance7 System maintenanceThis chapter explains, why regular maintenance isimportant for your system. It will also indicate to you,how you can check and regulate the water pressure.SYSTEM DAMAGECAUTION!through inadequate cleaning andmaintenance.• Have your system inspected, cleanedand maintained annually by a specialistcontractor.• We recommend you enter into acontract covering an annual inspectionand maintenance on an "as-requiredbasis".Observe the separate maintenance instructions formaintenance work on the neutralising system. System maintenance 77.2 Checking and correcting the water pressureYour heating system must contain sufficient water toensure the safe and correct function of your system.SYSTEM DAMAGEthrough frequent re-filling.CAUTION!The system may be damaged, dependingon water quality, by corrosion or scaling, ifyou frequently need to re-fill your systemwith make-up water.• Enquire from your local heatingcontractor whether you can use yourpublic water untreated or whether youneed to treat it before filling yoursystem.• Notify your local heating contractor ifyou need to regularly add make-upwater to your system.Fill make-up water into your system, if the systempressure is too low (see Chapter 3 "Using correct fill andmake-up water", page 7).7.2.1 When do you need to check the waterpressure in your heating system?– Recently filled in make-up water loses much of itsvolume in the first few days because it releasesgases.
