Cleaning and careEmptying the condensedwater containerThe condensed water will be collectedin the condensed water container unlessthe appliance has been fitted witha drain hose (see "Installation").Empty the condensed water containerafter every drying programme. The Empty out container indicator lightwill come on if the maximum level of thecondensed water container is reached. The indicator light will go out when thedoor is opened and closed again.Close the door fully.Otherwise the door and the front panelof the condensed water containercould suffer damage when pullingthe container out. Empty the container. Replace the container in the dryer.Condensed water should not beconsumed. It could lead to healthproblems for people and animals.Condensed water can be put to householduse (e.g. in a steam iron or humidifier). To ensure that any residual particlesof fluff in the condensed water areremoved before use, pass it through afine sieve or paper filter first. Pull out the container. Hold it at the front and towards theback and keep it in a horizontal positionwhen carrying it.22
Cleaning and careCleaning the fluff filtersThe fluff which is created by the dryingprocess is collected by the fluff filters inthe door and the door opening. Cleanthe filters after each drying programme*.Cleaning them whilst dryTip: You can also use a vacuumcleaner to remove the fluff. Use your fingers to remove the flufffrom the surface of the filter. Remove any fluff from the hollow partof the door opening. You could alsouse a cleaning brush which is availableas an optional extra from yourMiele dealer or the Miele Spare PartsDepartment, or use a vacuumcleaner. To manoeuvre thedryer out of its packing case to its installationsite you will also need to holdit by the front feet.Washer-dryer stackThe tumble dryer can also be combinedwith a Miele washing machine in awasher-dryer stack. The appropriate"WTV" stacking kit (available to order) tomatch your dryer is required.Stacking kits must only be installedby a suitably qualified fitter.37
Installation and connectionLevelling the machineThe air inlet and outlet vents onthe front and back of the machinemust not be covered as this wouldprevent sufficient ventilation for coolingthe condenser unit.Do not block the gap betweenthe bottom of the tumble dryer andthe floor with plinth facings, deep filecarpet etc. This would hinder a sufficientflow of air to the dryer. The machine must be perfectly level toensure safe and proper operation. The screw feet can be adjusted tocompensate for any unevenness inthe floor.Room ventilationThe air which is taken in when thedryer is in operation is blown out ofthe vents on the front of the machineand warms up the air in the room.It is very important, particulary if theroom is small, to ensure adequateventilation. Opening a window, forexample, will allow more air to enterthe room. Otherwise running timesand energy consumption could beincreased. Before moving the tumble dryeragain (e.g. when moving house)After each use a small quantity of condensedwater will collect in the areaaround the pump. This water can runout if the dryer is tipped up when it isbeing moved. It is a good idea to runthe Cool air programme for approximately1 minute before moving it . Any remainingcondensed water will then befed into the condensed water containeror out through the drain hose.38
Installation and connectionExternal condensed wateroutletGeneral notesWhen drying is in progress, condensedwater is pumped into the condensedwater container through the drain hose atthe back of the dryer. The condensedwater can also be drained off directly ifthe tumble dryer is installed near a sink, drain outlet etc. so that the condensedwater container does not have to beemptied.Drain hose length ............1.50 mMaximum delivery head .......1.50 mMaximum drain hose length ....4.00 mIf the on-site water drainage systemis not fitted with a non-return valveor an appropriate air gap, one mustbe fitted to prevent the risk ofback-flow. (See "Installation conditionsrequiring a non-return valve"). There will be a small amount of residualwater in the drain hose. Have acontainer ready to collect this. Pull the hose off its connection (seearrow). Allow any residual water to run intothe container. Unwind the hose and pull it carefullyout of the holders. The following optional accessories areavailable:– an extension hose– a non-return valve kit for connectionto an external condensed water outlet(includes an extension hose).Maximum delivery head with non-returnvalve fitted: 1.00 mArranging the drain hoseDo not pull on the drain hose anddo not stretch it or allow it to becomekinked as it could get damaged. Position the hose to the right or lefthand side as necessary.Leave the hose in the middle holder toprevent it from becoming kinked inadvertently.39
Installation and connectionExternal drainage via a sink or gully See "Front view" illustration. If you want to drain the water offinto a sink you will need to securethe hose carefully, e.g. by tying it toa tap to make sure it cannot slip duringuse. Otherwise there is a risk ofoverflowing water which could causedamage.Example: Connection to a sink drainoutletThe drain hose with non-return valve fittedcan be connected directly to a suitablesink drain outlet. Use the bow-shaped guide to preventthe drain hose from becomingkinked.Installation conditions requiring anon-return valveCertain installation conditions requirethe fitting of a non-return valvefor external water connection(available as an optional accessory).A non-return valve will prevent therisk of back-flow out of the dryerwhich could cause damage. Remove the following from the backof the dryer at the top:Adapter 1 and hose clip 3 behind it.A non-return valve is required:– If the tumble dryer is connected to asink drain outlet (see the followingsection).– If the tumble dryer is connected to adrainage system already in use byanother appliance, e.g. a dishwasheror washing machine.40
Installation and connection Fit adapter 1 to the sink drain outletusing nut 2.If this nut has a flat disc in it youshould take the disc out first. Attach the end of hose 4 to adapter1. Use a screwdriver to tighten hoseclip 3 up close to the nut.1 Adapter2 Nut3 Hose clip4 End of the hose5 Non-return valve6 Tumble dryer drain hoseNon-return valve 5 has to be fittedwith the arrow pointing in the directionof flow (i.e. towards the sink).Otherwise water will not drain out ofthe appliance. Fit non-return valve 5 to tumble dryerdrain hose 6 (make sure it is fitted inthe correct direction - see arrow onnon-return valve). Secure the non-return valve usinghose clips.41
