He received his PhD from MIT in 1980. From 1980to 1992, he worked as an economist at the Worldbank. Since 1992 he has been a professor atthe University of Amsterdam, interrupted by a position as "secretaris-generaal" at the DutchMinistry of Economic Affairs.Session 2.3“The Role of Foreign Direct Investment—Capturing Positive Externalities”Elizabeth Asiedu is Associate Professor at the Department of Economics at Kansas University,as well as research scholar at its Research Policy Institute. Among her achievements are the2008 Kemper Teaching Award and the 2008 Woman of Distinction Award. She has providedconsultancy to a wide range of institutions, including the African Development Bank, theUnited Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the World Institute for DevelopmentEconomics of the United Nations University. Among her main fields of expertise is the impactof Foreign Direct Investments on African economies.

He came directly from the Economic Community of West African Sates(ECOWAS), where he had been serving as President of the Commission since January 1st2007. Prior to this, ECOWAS was a Secretariat and Dr. Chambas had been serving as ExecutiveSecretary since February 1st 2002. Prior to heading the ECOWAS Secretariat, Dr. Chambas was aMember of Parliament in Ghana, where he served at various periods as First Deputy Speaker ofParliament, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Chairman of the Privileges Committee,Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Ranking Member of the Foreign AffairsCommittee, Member of the Select Committee on Education and the Committee on subsidiaryLegislation.Ministerial Luncheon-Speaker Day 2Mr. Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf is a member of the International Court of Justice as a judge since2nd February 2009. He served to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and CulturalOrganization (UNESCO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), andthe United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), coupled with his work asthe Legal Adviser to the International Development Board and General Conference of UNIDO.
