6149 Grand BarrackThe building stands on a concrete plinth but here it ishigh enough to provide some useable basement space.This is accessed by a trap door and three steps downat the northeast corner of the building. The basementarea has concrete columns supporting steel beamswhich in turn support the floor joists. The ground floorhas been sealed with boarding on its underside withbuilding paper above the boards. An internal timberstaircase leads up to ground floor level. The basementis ventilated by three small windows on the west sideand is currently storing some spare window framesand has the hot water cylinders for the bathroomaccommodation above. The internal walls of thebasement are lined throughout with Woodwall slabswhich have been rendered in some areas.49.1 South and east elevations49.2 North and west elevations
