We also have a fundraisingcommittee who organize fairs, discos and other fundraising events.We have excellent dining facilities. Our menu includes a healthy range of hot and cold food.We encourage the children to eat their 5-a-day. Pupils are allowed to bring their own packedlunch.My next reason for you to come to our school is because of the brilliant technology. At <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> wedeliver a broad and balanced curriculum designed to provide children with a range ofopportunities to discover and develop their talents.Basic SkillsOur school believes that the acquisition of basic skills (literacy and numeracy) is essential foreach child to fulfil their potential. Consequently, we allocate a high proportion of time to Englishand mathematics.Physical Education (PE)The school provides a range of sporting opportunities across the academic year for all children.There are two hours of PE in school each week. Children in year 6 attend swimming lessons atHorwich Leisure Centre.Religious Education (RE)R.E. is part of the curriculum at <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> and it follows the agreed diocesansyllabus. There is an act of collective worship for every day of the week. Philosophy 4 ChildrenWe use Philosophy 4 Children as part of our curriculum from Year 1 through to Year 6.Philosophical discussions help to develop social skills, thinking skills and many other personalqualities.<strong>School</strong> ClubsThere are a variety of clubs at <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong>: sports teams, a school choir, art andcraft clubs, and lunch time clubs. Each year children fromYear 5 and 6 attend a four day school residential.MusicOur children are taught by a specialist music teacherfrom nursery through to Year 4.<strong>School</strong> BankEvery Monday our school bank is open to encouragechildren to learn the skills of financial management assoon as possible. The school bank operates through theRoyal Bank of Scotland.Theme DaysEach half term every class has a theme day. Pastoral Care<strong>School</strong> Health“Behaviour in classrooms is good and contributes to creating good relationships” - Ofsted 2010Our school nurse is a registered nurse withspecialised training and experience in childhealth. The role of the nurse is to encouragehigh standards of health and hygiene so thateach child is able to gain the full benefit fromtheir education.We regret that staff cannot acceptresponsibility for administering medication.However, we will work with parents toprovide alternative arrangements whereverpossible.Please ensure that school have currentcontact details so that in the event of anemergency we can contact you immediately.Sex and Relationship Education is taughtthroughout Key Stage 2. However, the schoolnurse, in conjunction with the Year 6 teacher,will teach more sensitive issues in the finalyear of primary schoolAttendanceWe hope that you will support us in ensuring that your child’s attendance is good. Pleasenotify school immediately if your child will be absent from school or is late. Withoutnotification your child’s absence is recorded as unauthorised.Breakfast ClubThe club runs from 8:15 am until 8:45 am each weekday. The charge is 60 pence per day (orfree if your child is entitled to free school meals). There is a choice of cereal, toast with avariety of spreads, fruit and cordial.Code of ConductOur Ofsted report (2010) described the school as ‘caring’ and in this nurturing environmentchildren behave well. We have three very simple rules:1. Always walk2. Always treat others and their things with respect3. Always follow instructions the first time they are given.Children who always stick to the school rules are called our ‘always’ children and arerewarded at the end of each term and then the end of the school year.8

<strong>School</strong> OrganisationThe <strong>School</strong> DayThe school gates open at 8.40am, children enter school at 8.45am and teaching begins at 9.00am. Lunch is staggered for different year groups from 11.30 until 12.20. Each year group hasfifty minutes for lunch. At the end of the school day the gates open at 3.15pm and schoolfinishes at 3.25 pm.Admissions<strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong> is a community schooland admissions are controlled by the LocalEducation Authority. We have no affiliation to anyparticular religious affiliation or denomination.Please be aware that a place in the nursery classdoes not guarantee a place in the school.<strong>School</strong> LibraryWe are extremely fortunate to be able to use thepublic library as our school library. All childrenfrom reception upwards join the library and visitthe school each week to borrow new books.Partnership with Rivington &BlackrodOur school works closely with Rivington &Blackrod High <strong>School</strong> and indeed the two schools are physically linked by the PathwayCentre.
