We go about anddo our thing, and we go home, and that’s part of the reason that we’re successful.We’ve had to work together so much to keep our buying powerstrong. We realize we’re not the big player.… And yet, in some communities,we’re Number One. 94I have argued in this essay that co-operatives in Saskatchewan emerged and evolvedpragmatically as reactions to monopolies created by global economic transformations, and asmeans for individualists to deal with the consequences of their individualism. There is nothingin contemporary globalization and its effects on Saskatchewan that suggests these forces— monopolies, economic transformations, individualism — will be less than they were inthe past.
