Following a strong end to2010, Hong Kong experiencedactive yet cautious hiring activityin the first half of 2011 acrossmost sectors and disciplines.Across the financial servicessector, we saw notable demandfor compliance professionals,regulatory reporting specialistsand product controllers in thefirst half of 2011. This demandwas primarily prompted by strongbusiness growth and increasedregulatory pressure, which sawbusinesses focus on bolsteringtheir financial reporting andproduct control functions.The commerce sector continuedgrowing and we saw steadydemand for experiencedprofessionals across variousfunctions, including IT support,shipping, supply chain and HR.These industries remainedstrong in the face of globaleconomic uncertainty as theHong Kong economy wassupported by retail sales growthexceeding 20%. With sales levelsjumping 24.1% in September froma year earlier to HK$31.2 billion(USD$4 billion), retail luxury salesand marketing professionalsremained in constant demand.HONG KONGGrowth in the front office ledto greater demand for financestaff in the back office and banksand financial institutions weregenerally positive about hiring.We saw significant demand forsales and marketing professionalsin financial services in quartertwo, which was primarilyfuelled by banks looking togrow these teams. Marketingcommunications, corporatecommunications and roadshowcoordinators were particularlysought-after.Despite uncertainty in theeconomic climate, we expectsteady hiring levels as we moveinto 2012.
