the national laboratories. Some of the work proposed here supports these critical pathitems. However, most of the proposed projects concentrate on the next level ofdevelopment: issues that must be resolved in order to build the ILC in a timely fashion,based on a solid design and reliable cost estimates.There has been ongoing Linear Collider research and development work at laboratoriesand universities for the last twenty years. As the accelerator nears construction, moreresources will be needed to finalize its design. The work proposed here will not onlyaccomplish the short-term goals described above, but will also will train new scientistsand engineers, contributing to the pool of talent and expertise that will be needed toaccomplish the large task of building the International Linear Collider accelerator anddetector.4
