FABTECH 2007The Metal Benders“Reality Ride” Exhibit Draws LargeCrowds of Visitors at FABTECHNearly 2,000 visitors rode the METALBENDERS reality ride at the Finn-<strong>Power</strong>FABTECH 2007 exhibit from November11- 14 in Chicago.In a departure from the traditional trade booth exhibit,Finn-<strong>Power</strong> International, Inc. once again included a realityride theater to its FABTECH exhibition. The METALBENDERS reality ride consisted of an imaginary tripthrough metal bending history. It then transported the riderto another dimension of bending technology with a closeupview of the EBe Express Bending Cell in action. The20' x30' x18' high theater included: A 6-1/2 minute HD video featuring a quickhistorical look back at the advancements in metalbending, visiting a 1475 blacksmith shop; a 1922hand brake; and a 1967 mechanical press brake.Most of the video showed the EBe bending a widevariety of complex parts. All parts that werefabricated in the video were on display just outsidethe theater A 12-passenger motion platform with proportionallycontrolledhydraulics Two 8,000 ANSI lumens HD projectors An 8' x17' curved screen Surround sound audio Theater environment with a controlled-lightatmosphere. The entire theater operation, includingvideo, audio, lighting, and motion control of theplatform was programmed in one software package(C-Nario) A pre-show waiting area with 8 HD screens playingtestimonials from various Finn-<strong>Power</strong> customers Exterior theater marquee, giant movie posters, andfive plasma screens showing scenes from the videoBob Kolcz, Finn-<strong>Power</strong>’s director of marketing &corporate communications, created the “reality ride”concept and wrote and produced the video production withFrank Bowman, Impact Creative Group, Waterloo, Iowa, anddesigned the theater and moving platform with MarvinSmejkal of Sound Concepts, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. TiinaAyaydin, marketing coordinator, assisted in all aspects ofproduction and was responsible for costuming the actors in thehistorical scenes.C6 Turret Punch Press LSTFinn-<strong>Power</strong>’s product display was the 20-station, 33-ton C6 servo hydraulic turret punchpress LST. The modular LST constructionconsists of a loading device with integratedsheet separation and double sheet detection,stacking device for component removal andstacking and an unloading device for skeletonremoval. Multiple loading and unloading tableconfigurations are available to tailor toindividual production needs.Finn-<strong>Power</strong> LST is connectable to all Finn-<strong>Power</strong> storage and retrieval or materialmanagement systems. The LST 6 is a compactautomatic sheet loading and part sorting system.LST loads sheets to the machine, picks up theparts from the machine and stacks them to theprogrammed coordinate on the stacking table.Loading capacity is 6,614 lbs (3,000 kg).Punched parts are picked up in front of theturret by using a programmable vacuum gripper.Parts are sorted and stacked on the moving tableto the programmed position.Before the METAL BENDERSperformance, visitors were entertained ina pre-show waiting area with 8 HDscreens playing testimonials from variousFinn-<strong>Power</strong> customers.Nearly 2000 visitors rode the METAL BENDERS reality ride at theFinn-<strong>Power</strong> FABTECH exhibit from November 11-14 in Chicago.12
