AROUND THE PARISHES...To Linda Daly and Dee Huddleston who co-ordinated the Puppets,to Steve Higgs our organist, to Brendan Sheahan and Jackie Taylor wholed the prayers and to Cynthia Lang who provided a beautifulPowerpoint that gave us a visual display of the beauty of God’s Worldand to Lilian Webb our photographer on the day.At the end of the service Rev. Sandra spoke about Rev. Robert andhis generosity of spirit and highlighted the many attributes that hebrought to our parishes during the time he was with us. Following Rev.Sandra’s tribute, a Presentation was made to Rev Robert on behalf ofNewcastle Lyons and Celbridge & Straffan Parishes, after which DevonBeattie, Kevin Moore and Annette Camier thanked Rev Robert onbehalf of the three churches.On behalf of everyone in our parishes we would like to extend everygood wish to Rev. (No evening service July & August)Parish BBQThe parish BBQ was held after church on Sunday 29th <strong>May</strong>. It was awonderful occasion with almost 200 people attending over a beautifuland sunny lunchtime. There was a bouncing castle for the children andburgers and sausages with salads and deserts for everyone. This eventwas coordinated by Linda Dooley and a small committee but manypeople took part to help with moving chairs, erecting gazebos andproviding deserts. It was wonderful to see so many young peoplepresent and to have a parish event that children could take a full partin. Thank you Linda, for the charming way in which you organised it alland to everyone who worked hard on the day. Thechildren’s choir led by Clare Cherry has proved a great success and hasbrightened the family services each month with their singing. This choirwill also take a break over the summer and will resume in September.BaptismsOn Sunday 22nd <strong>May</strong> three members of the Tyrell family werebaptised. Anna Murphy Tyrell and her two little girls, Louisa & Eve werebaptised together during the main morning service. We do not oftenhave adult baptism and so it is very special when somebody comes tothis decision later in life. We wish the family every blessing andhappiness as part of the bigger family of the church in Delgany.Sunday ClubRomi Gray has done a great job over the past couple of years incoordinating the parish Sunday club. From September next her role willbe taken on by Meg Elliot. There is a rota of teachers and assistantteachers who take turns on the various Sundays of the month. If youwould like to be part of this team please contact the rector. It is animportant job for the children of our church. There will be a meeting inearly September to draw up a rota for the coming year and to makesure that all the necessary details for Safeguarding Trust have beencomplied with.Delgany National SchoolThe annual school leavers service will take place in ChristchurchDelgany on Sunday 19th June at 10:30 a.m. This is an important andenjoyable event in the school calendar when time is taken to wish ourschool leavers well as they move on to the next phase of their lives.Sixth class play an active role in the service.The P.A. sponsored walk and BBQ will take place on the afternoonof the 19th June, starting time is 2:30,in Djouce woods. This is alwaysan enjoyable and fun afternoon for all the family-pets included!Sixth class, Mrs. Conran and Ms. Morrow spent a thoroughly enjoyableweek in the Gaeltacht in Donegal. This was Delgany’s first time toembark on this trip and the general consensus was that it was a fantasticexperience that combined the right amount of fun with lots of learning.We are delighted to say that work will commence on the replacementof the roof shortly and should be completed over the holidays.This has been a great year for sport in DNS with successes in hockey,soccer, golf, track and field and cricket and lots more silverware to addto the trophy cabinet. Well done to all involved and especially Sharon.As we approach the end of the school year it is with sadness that wesay goodbye to Ms. Lynne Freeman our part-time resource teacher.Lynne has been with Delgany N.S. for many years and has not only beena brilliant teacher but has contributed hugely to the school through herwork on the Parents’ Association.Thursday ClubOn Thursday 2nd June the club had an all day outing to theArboretum, Life Style and Garden Centre at Leighlin Bridge and St.Laserian’s Cathedral.FuneralThe death of Horner Beckett took place during the month. Hornerwas a great character who was very prominent in the Rotary Club andProbus and with motor racing events. He only retired in the last fewyears and was 90 when he died very peacefully while watching a rugbymatch in the comfort of his own living room. Our sympathy goes to hiswife Madeline, his faithful companion for over 62 years and to theirfamily. The funeral service took place in Mount Jerome chapel,conducted by Canon Horace McKinley who knew the family beforethey came to Delgany.50 CHuRCH REVIEW
