CIVIC E XCHANGE ANNUAL REPORT 2005-2006FINANCIAL OVERVIEWA message from the CFO,Kylie UebergangFunding LevelsTotal funding in the year 05/06 amounted toHK$3.9 million which was slightly higher thanlast year. However total expenses were alsoslightly higher than last year which resulted in asmall loss of HK$68,205. This increase in totalexpenses was reflected in the increased quality ofour project work during the year including moreintense collaboration with experts in academiaand higher quality publications, which we hopewill access a wider audience.Funding Sources80% of our funding for this year came from localKylie Uebergangsources with the largest contributing sectorbeing business (29% of total funding), followedby charitable foundations (25% of total funding), individuals (19% oftotal), the HKSAR Government (through competitively bid tenders andconsultancy agreements, 5% of total) and NGOs (2% of total). Theremaining 20% of our funding came from international NGOs. Themain difference in our year on year funding sources was the increasedfunding through local foundations and the rebounding of local businessfunding which lagged in 2005, although it was our biggestfunding source in 2004.Funding UsesEnvironment and ConservationProjects of the environment and conservation nature made up overhalf of our total project focus this year. We initiated studies focussingon local and regional air pollution issues including a study relatingto the air pollution issues facing the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Our air6
