SUPPORTING THE HEART OF SFUArtist’s concept of new WAC Bennett Library entry.Plans are underway for some majorupgrades to the WAC Bennett Library, and thanks to our donors, we already havefunds ready. Over the past year, nearly 1,000people and organizations have donatedmore than $110,000 for library upgrades.WAC Bennett Library was built morethan 45 years ago, so upgrades are requiredto keep up with today’s students, researchers, and faculty who expect information24/7. Immediate revitalization plans are inplace to create vibrant and collaborativelearning spaces for students, faculty andthe community on the second and thirdfloors, including a new main entrance.Dean of Library Services and UniversityLibrarian Charles Eckman says,“The library is the heart of the university,a place where all alumni have spent timewriting papers, preparing for examsand working with friends. So it doesn’tsurprise me that donors have alwaysbeen so generous. I’m looking forwardto continuing our work with our friendsand supporters to improve resources, pilotnew services and enhance physical spacesto support learning and research.”It’s not too late for you to lend a hand.Contact Virginia Hong: 778.782.9341 orvirginia_hong@sfu.ca.SFU LIBRARY UPDATEPublished by SFU LibrarySimon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC V5A 1S6778.782.6704 library@sfu.ca www.lib.sfu.caCharles Eckman, DeanBarry Shell, writer and editorCopyright © 2012 Permission granted toreproduce articles for SFU promotionalpurposes.
