Conclusions & Further ResearchThis descriptive analysis of the Objective 1 funded VTS scheme in Cornwalldemonstrates that while developing from a difficult start it has grownsubstantially from the beginning of 2002. Furthermore, this is likely to continuewith judicious management as the breadth of events expands, particularly in itsfunding of discussion based groups. Such groups, if facilitated effectively, havethe potential to capture an audience and be driven by demand based requirements. There is however a question regarding the spatial distribution of beneficiaryuptake. As such, it will be important to identify why certain areas do notparticipate at a level reflective of its agricultural population or number ofagricultural holdings.Future and on-going research has three strands. The first examines the flow ofinformation within the social networks of farm businesses. Limited knowledgeflow could potentially limit dynamic changes to farm business and this couldhave implications regarding the targeting of VTS events. Second, discussiongroups will be investigated regarding their dynamics and development as ameans of transferring information. Finally, an in-depth investigation of VTSparticipation will enable the spatial analysis and mapping of gender, multipleparticipation and group involvement.ReferencesDEFRA (2004a) June Census Data 2003http://www.defra.gov.uk/esg/work_htm/publications/cs/farmstats_web/default.htmDEFRA (2004b) Vocational Traininghttp://www.defra.gov.uk/erdp/schemes/training/default.htmDuchy College Farm Management and Professional Development Unit 2002http://www.farm-management-sw.co.uk/GOSW (2000) http://www.gosw.gov.ukHMSO (2001) Sub-regional and local area gross domestic product.
