Congratulations Junior League
Sometime ago the renowned columnist
and wnter Paul Gallico took the Junior
League to task. HlS article m a national
magaine descnbed the "Leaguers" as a
grour, that "pomped, poweJed and pub-hzed
He satincaBy referred to the Smart
Set as frustrated matrons who, irutead
of rllslDg Junior, spend thell' time in
superficial and feeble attempts at raising
funds for charity.
Now what prompted Pounclmg Paul
who is usually apt WIth hIS wcrd jitney
to pattern such a cynlcal and unjust view
is a mystery. Perhaps he wu tired of
covenng subjects he was informed
about, ltO he pIcked on something new
and strange, the Junior League.
We regret we are not as gifted as
GaIlico to ~~~ show how he struck put
WIth the loaded u far as the
Jumor League is concerned.
many hours of preparation, they saw
thell' plans vll'tually washed out by contmuous
Refusing to accept defeat. League
members announced that the fair would
Unhke the weather, this undampened
