Segregated waste, including recyclables, is either collected separately (in some areas)or by junk shop cooperatives/ eco–aides <strong>and</strong> brought to barangay/ city MRFs. TheMRF serves as a form of mini solid waste transfer or sorting stati<strong>on</strong>/ drop center,ideally having composting <strong>and</strong> recycling facilities. To date, there are 2,312 MRFsacross the country, as m<strong>and</strong>ated by RA 9003, with others still in the process of beingset up by the majority of barangays.Figure 1.
