Introduction.The Distance Learning Gateway Portal is an integrated solution for connecting peoples andinformation in the educational framework.It consists to:• An interactive collaborative web portal.• A corporate E-Mail.• The Class Server system.• A live communication system.An interactive collaborative web portal is a secured single point of input (portal) allowingto share immediately educational matters and information between the European SchoolCommunity.It can be accessible 24/24, 7 days a week, everywhere, where an internet connection ispossible.A corporate E-Mail is an E-Mail who can be provided to school not already having E-Mailaccount service.Class Server system is a learning management system that allows the teachers to createinteractive learning resources and assign them to their students via internet.A live communication system is a system allowing chat, voices and video conferencesconnections like MSN.The user of the portal is on voluntary base.Copyrighted materiel for educational purpose can be used. No questions here to copy entirebooks, music, software…Daily backup of all material put in the portal are kept 3 months.Access.ConnectionOn your Browser (Internet explorer, Mozilla…) type the following addresshttps://portal.lg.eursc.org Pay attention to the S at https. This S means Secured http.To enter the portal.To enter the portal you’ll need a User Name and a Password. This logon information will begiven by the system administrator.Basically logon’s User Name follows the following patterns:firstName.lastName@adm.eursc.orgorfirstName.lastName@lg.eursc.orgThe @adm.eursc.org is design for the people already having access to the administrationnetwork, meanly heads, administration peoples, ict supports… They must add


@adm.eursc.org at the end of their firstName.lastName. Password remains the same as theone used to access administration network.The @lg.eursc.org is design for the people having no access to the administration network,meanly teachers, students, parents, inspectors… They must add @lg.eursc.org at the end oftheir firstName.lastName.Your password is private and identifies all actions you’ll do in the portal. So don’t share it,don’t check Remember my password check box and close all portal pages before to leaveyour computer. It also will be a very good idea to lock your computer before leaving it forshort periods (Press Alt Ctrl Del then press enter).SecurityUnderstanding general accessesFor the users, there are 2 accesses right: Reader and contributor.• A reader is a person having only read right.• A contributor is a person having read, write, files/folders create, files/folders delete,files/folders modifications rights.All users having access to the portal have read access to a part of Subject (see UnderstandingParticular accesses for more information) news, links, part of the tools, Global Search,Copyright and Help.Accesses are given by role. Roles are:• Head• Teacher• Inspector• Parent• Student• ICT• External peopleContributors for Subjects are:• Teachers of the concerned subject• ICT coordinators• ICT supports• Inspectors

The root is the home page and the leaf is the place tostore information.


To access a leaf, you’ll need to follow the path to it. E.g. to access Primary Arts materiel,you’ll need to go to the home page, click onthenthenThere is your leaf. You can choice the place you want to work.To go back, you have many possibilities.• Click on Back button• Click on the little arrow, right the Back button and choice where you want to go• Click Home, left on the main bar menu, to go to the home page.• Click to Up to…, right on the main bar menu, to go one page up.• Click on the navigation bar to the place you want to goe.g. Subject to go to Subject menu.• Click on Current Site, left to Home on the main bar menu, to come back to the leafunder which you are working.E.g. you are working for a long time under:In stead of clicking many time Back or Up to … and then the leave where you want tobe…, click on Current Site.Use.Upload/download.Portal is meanly designed to allow users to upload and download documents. Upload anddownload features are available in documents library. Typical documents library is LearningResources in Subject leafs.To upload documents you can:• Click on Upload DocumentSelect the document you want upload clicking on Browse


Select the language or leave – for images…Click Save and close• Click on Explorer viewThere you can user Copy/Paste or Drag/Drop windows feature from WindowsExplorer to the portal for one or many file and folder. It is interesting to notice thatwhen you copy folder, all files and folders sub it, are also copied.To download documents you can:• Click on the name of the document you want to download.With that method, as the document is still linked to the portal and depending on theconfiguration you have, the system will prompt you for password. So if you just wanthave a copy of a document, user one of the next method.• On the document’s name click on the right mouse’s button and select Save TargetAs…


Copy the file where you want and open it.• Click on Explorer viewThere you can user Copy/Paste or Drag/Drop windows feature from the portal toWindows Explorer for one or many file and folder. It is interesting to notice that whenyou copy folder(s), all files and folders sub it, are also copied.Search.Search bar are available in every pages and looks like• The search will occur from the page you are down to structure.• The first text box, from left to right, is designed to enter the text you are searching.The search engine will search the text string in the document’s titles and inside thedocuments.• The second text box is designed to select the place where to search. You can selectthe current page (All Sites) or a sub page available from the page you are.• The button is there to launch the search. Just pressing Enter is not enough, you mustclick on .


Services.Corporate E-Mail.From the home page, left, down to the Search, you can enter Corporate E-Mail.This E-Mail is the Outlook Web Access service.It is design to school not having E-Mail services. To know if you school have E-Mailservices, contact you ICT administrator.As the portal is accessible from every computer connected to internet, this E-Mail is alsoaccessible from every computer connected to internet.Class Server.From the home page, down to Community link, you can enter Class Server.To use Class Server, you need:• To be initialised as teacher in the Class Server• A class/course• StudentsTo be authorised to use it, you’ll need to send your name and the class/course code to thesystem administrator. The students will be retrieved from ELEE system.Class / course codes.All classes have a code like e.g. P1FRA for Primary first FRench group A.All courses have a code like e.g. S1HISFRA for Secondary first HIStory French group A.Class code is used for primary because a teacher mainly stays all the day with the same class.Course code is used for secondary (but also for primary) because secondary teacher will havemany different classes or group of student from several classes.Installation.To start to use class server, you will need to install what’s called client software. Clientsoftware is software that is installed locally to a P.C. to access remote services.To install the Class Server Client, click onfrom the Class server page then open the documentand follow the instructions.Help.To know more about Class Server and how to use it, on the installation page, go to Guidesand HowTo
