Cary Park District NewsWe Have Exciting News.....This summer the Cary Park District will be renovating theCommunity Center. Originally built in 1978 and renovatedin 1996, the Community Center is the home to hundreds ofrecreational programs, a Fitness Center, the CommunityPool, and the Administrative Offices. Hundreds ofpeople each week visit the facility to enjoy recreationalprogramming, to attend meetings, or to socialize.This renovation coincides with the Board of Commissionersvision to improve facilities, increase participation inrecreational programming, and to provide additionalservices to the residents of the Park District.The plans include renovating the three racquetball courtsinto program rooms, the addition of an elevator, the additionof restrooms on the lower level, and the remodel ofexisting spaces including the lobby, Fitness Center, andsome program rooms.The project will be managed in three phases and may impactyour use of the Community Center during the renovationperiod. During this time the lobby, the CommunityPool, the locker rooms, and the Administrative offices willremain open. Summer programs will be held as planned,but please note the locations of the programs.Phase OneThe first phase includes the renovation of the fitness areabehind the lobby’s front desk. The fitness area behindthe front desk will close beginning April 30 and will beunavailable for approximately one month. During thistime, anyone using the Fitness Center will only have accessto the south end cardio fitness room.Phase TwoThe second phase will begin in June and includesthe renovation of the upper and lower level programrooms, the racquetball court spaces, stairways,and south end of the Fitness Center. Thisphase of the renovation is expected to continueinto late summer/early fall. The fitness room behindthe front desk is expected to be complete andopen for use. This area will contain a combinationof cardio and strength line fitness equipment.Phase ThreeThe final phase includes the renovation of thelobby. Due to lobby construction, the fitness areabehind the front desk will not be accessible. Thesouth end cardio fitness room should be availablefor use. During this time, the Community Center willremain open; however the visitor entrance may bemoved to a side location.Project UpdatesProgress of this project and notices of changesto Community Center hours or amenities duringthe renovation may be provided to you throughe-mail updates. If the pool closes due to weather, ahalf- hour interval will be used to determine if the pool reopens. Patronswill have to leave the premises during this waiting period. If the poolcannot open by 6:00 pm, it will remain closed for the evening.• If there are fewer than 15 pool users for an extended period of time, staffreserves the right to close the pool.• Approved swim wear only in the pool. No cutoffs.• Infant chair float devices will be allowed in the tot pool only. The younger the participant, themore this guideline must be followed to insure safety, enjoyment,and accomplishment. A birth certificate may berequested if doubt occurs concerning a participant’s age.Behavior:Although the Park District realizes that inappropriate behaviormay occur, the Park District reserves the right to suspendor remove participants from programs or facilities if hazardous,disruptive, and/or destructive behavior persists. If a participantis taken out of a program or removed from a facilitydue to these circumstances, a prorated refund will be issuedfor the remainder of the program or facility usage.Fees:Resident/Non-resident - The first program fees listed in thebrochure are for Cary Park District residents. Non-resident(NR) fees are listed second and are the higher rate of thetwo. Residents support the Park District through tax dollars,while non-residents pay to participate through higher registrationfees. All account balances must be paid in full beforeregistering for new programs.Fair Share - Those desiring to achieve resident status maypay their “fair share” of taxes based on the taxable valueof their home. This annual payment entitles an individualto pay in-district fees for all Park District programs, tuition,passes, etc. and to register for programs at the same timeas residents.Providing exceptional recreation, parks and open space opportunities.Minimum/Maximum:A minimum and maximum number of participants is set foreach program. This is to ensure the best possible experiencefor each participant. The Park District may increase or reduceprogram size if necessary.Say Cheese!Photographs and videos are taken of participants to usefor promotional purposes. By registering for a program, youhave granted the Park District permission to use your imagefor promotional purposes unless otherwise stated.In Case of Oops!During the course of Park District programs, there can beunforeseen circumstances that force the Park District tochange schedules, instructors, combine or postpone programs,adjust facility usage or modify fees. egistration informationProcess:Resident Registration - Registration for residents begins assoon as you receive the brochure.Resident “First Batch” Registration - To give all residents thefirst and equal opportunity to register, a computerized randomizationsystem is used to fill programs. All resident registrationsthat are received on or before Friday, April 17 at4:30 p.m. are considered “first batch” and will be randomized.A registration confirmation will be provided only whena registration has not been granted (i.e. wait list). Therefore,presume you are registered for a program unless you arenotified otherwise by the Park District. If an opening doesnot become available, or a program is cancelled, a refundwill be processed. Automatic refunds are generated afterthe start of programs for wait listed and canceled programs.Questions can be directed to 847-639-6100 ext. 0.All resident registrations received after 4:30 pm on Friday,April 17 will be processed in the order received after thecomputer randomization is complete.Non-resident Registration - Registration for non-residents willbe processed beginning Monday, April 27.
