It appears that enterprises tend to suffer from skill gaps rather than skill shortagevacancies. Although there are a number of specific skill gaps affecting sub sectorsone particular area of concern relates to Information and CommunicationTechnology (ICT) and this affects the whole sector.One of the biggest problems facing education and training in the creative industriessector is the transition from education to the workforce and success will rest on theco-operation between training providers, employers, regional and local agencies toenable a clear route from school/college to the workplace.The complex nature of the sector results in an array of organisations and bodiesresponsible for workforce development and this is also improving in terms of whatNTOs are now supplying. The wider influence of the newly formed Creative andCultural Sector Skills Council that has attracted a number of creative industries subsectors may also help to simplify training in the workplace for this sector.There is now a better understanding of this complex industrial sector as a result ofgovernment and regional initiatives to gather data on its constituent activities,assess skills and training issues and apply a development plan to respond to andfocus growth in the right direction.Despite the remaining gaps in the data relating to creative industries, activities andthe speed with which many of these sub sectors are changing, there now appearsto be a structure in place both nationally and regionally to address the manycurrent and future challenges that will undoubtedly arise.iv
