Mary RoseNutter was pronounced dead atthe scene at 2:41 a.m.Saturday. Christopher Bayer II,29, from Lancaster, was driving the vehicle that struck the victim.Bayer was detained on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a report from theLancaster Police Department. According to the police report, Bayer was given a breath test, in which hetested .115, which is more than the legal limit of .08. Charges are expected to be filed against Bayer onMonday, Lancaster Police Chief David Bailey said.Originally published in the Lancaster Eagle Gazette October 16, 2011Lancaster woman remembered as gentle, lovingLANCASTER — Mary Rose Nutter was the type of person who didn’t like to be in anybody’s way. “Shealways felt like she was a bother to people,” recalls her niece, Bobbi Glass of Lancaster. “That’s why shealways did her errands at night, because there weren’t a lot of people around.” But a routine, early-morningtrip to the grocery store on Saturday took a tragic turn when Nutter, 69, was struck and killed by a vehiclewhile walking in the 900 block of West Fair Avenue. The driver of the 1997 Chevy Suburban, ChristopherBayer II, 29, of Lancaster, was reportedly driving drunk, according to police, and has been charged withaggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, and reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. Hewas arraigned Monday in Fairfield County Municipal Court and is out on bond. His preliminary hearing isset for Oct. 28. Glass said the sudden death of her aunt has left her and the rest of Nutter’s family,including her daughter Frankie Nutter, ex-husband Bill Nutter, and sisters Ruth Brenner and SuellenYenrick, all of Lancaster, in shock. “We loved her and we’re going to miss her,” Glass said. Nutter waspronounced dead at 2:41 a.m. Saturday after she was struck by Bayer’s vehicle. According to traffic crashreport from the Lancaster Police Department, Nutter had been pushing a grocery cart that containedshopping bags from Kroger when the crash occurred. Bayer was detained on suspicion of operating avehicle while intoxicated. He was given a breath test, in which his blood-alcohol level was .115, which ismore than the legal limit of .08, police records indicate. Glass said funeral arrangements have not yet beenmade for her aunt, a woman she described as private and soft-spoken. She added Nutter was a talentedartist who had a knack for putting together beautiful flower arrangements. “She could arrange flowers likeno one I’ve ever seen before,” Glass said. Pastor Craig Cessna of Lancaster Pilgrim Church said he hadgotten to know Nutter well over the past year, even driving up to Columbus with his wife to visit her in thehospital when she had a brain tumor removed. “She was a kind and gentle person ... very humble,” Cessnasaid. “She was quick to compliment others and think of others. ... Through her illness, she was unsteady onher feet and would stagger a lot when she walked and she worried often about needing to get a job.” Cessnaadded: “She was very concerned about doing the right thing.” Nutter was a resident of Mount PleasantPlace, 963 Prestige Blvd., which is located off Fair Avenue in Lancaster. Mount Pleasant Place is anindependent-living complex for residents 62 and older that is managed by Lutheran Social Services ofCentral Ohio. Dennis Rose, manager of Mount Pleasant Place, said Nutter moved into her apartment inFebruary and was active with the other residents there. “She was a very sweet lady and she will be dearlymissed,” he said. “A lot of the residents were disappointed and concerned to hear about what happened.”Jason A. RobertDavid Macioci20 Apr 1942 – 16 Jun 2010Suffolk, VASUFFOLK, VA: Retired MSgt.Robert David Macioci, ofSuffolk, VA and formerly ofLancaster, OH, passed away athis home on June 16, 2010,surrounded by his family aftera lengthy battle with lungcancer.He was born on April 20, 1942to the late Sidney A. and NellMacioci.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert D."Bobby" Macioci, Jr.He was a 20 year Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze star with V forValor because of his heroism while under enemy fire. In addition to Vietnam, he served twice in Germany,Texas, Langley AFB Virginia, and Minot, ND. For most of his 20 year career he was an aircraftmaintenance superintendent. Following retirement he moved back home to Lancaster and worked at whathe knew best, automobile mechanic. Upon his father's retirement from Macioci's Garage, Robert took asmall one man family business and expanded, improved, and served the Lancaster community with prideand honesty for 24 years, when in 2005 he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He then moved to Suffolk to benear his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW Lancaster Post #11, AM Vets, MooseLodge, and American Legions. He was a previous member of the Lancaster Eagles. His passions in lifewere his work, his family, friends, and Nascar. In RemembranceSTATE HIGHWAY patrolmen said Schmelzer was driving east when he came up behind another cartraveling slowly to make a turn. Schmelzer swerved his car, went left-of-center and hit the Hendricksonauto head-on. The Hendrickson auto skidded around backwards, the rear portion smashing into a tree. Thevehicle then spun around again.Pleasantville and Bremen emergency squads were at the scene.Hendrickson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Hattie) Hendrickson, Rt. 5 Lancaster. The youth diedat the hospital two hours after the mishap. Besides the parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. JerryBoyer, Rt. 1 Lancaster, and Miss.
