Scott CochraneFood & Beverage ManagerHHappy Spring Everyone!TablesideWe finally have some warm weather here in southern Florida. The “winter”was not the best for us…...it was better than being up north but not as niceas one would expect to enjoy down here. The Food andBeverage team hopes you enjoyed the season and thatyou will have a wonderful action packed summer. There will be a dinner dance on May 7th withentertainment presented by the MC Squared Duo.They have appeared at the club several times and alwayshave the dance floor hopping! Although the dates havenot yet been confirmed as of this newsletter, there will be several appearancesby DJ Ron Rutz this summer for your dancing pleasure, along with severalwine tastings. The club will keep you posted via e-mail and the web site as weset dates for each event during the summer months. Now about wine….2007 was a very good year for Oregon & CaliforniaPinot Noirs and also California Cabernets. I have been fortunate to obtainseveral exceptionally nice wines for the club’s wine list this spring. Just to namea few: Caymus, Cabernet Sauvignon (92 points by The Wine Spectator),from Napa, California; J Vineyards Pinot Noir from the Russian River areaof Sonoma, California (90 points by The Wine Spectator); and a beautifulChateauneuf du Pape (92 points by The Wine Spectator) produced byMichael Chapoutier, whose family is widely recognized as one of the premierBurgundian vintners. These selections are just a few of the many great wineson the wine list. I hope you take a look and see if there is something you maywish to try with dinner at the club. As I change the wine list several timeseach season, please feel free to ask me what some of the recent additions maybe and I will be very happy to help you with your selections. To those members staying here all year, we will see you soon….. for allof the members traveling to other parts, we wish you a great summer and wewill see you in the fall!Best wishes from the Food & Beverage Team.Social Interclub BridgeThe Vineyards Country Club has won first place in the Social Interclub Bridgeof Southwest Florida for the 2009/2010 season. The closing luncheon was held on April 1, 2010 at Foxfire Country Club.Awards were presented and contributions were given to this year’s charities: BonitaSprings Salvation Army, Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support in Naples and St.Matthews House.Members of the winning team are: Lois Bradley – Co-Captain, Doris Fowkes – Co-Captain, Donna Troy, June Klein, Carol Conroy, Jean Scholtens, Florence Hatfield,Joanne Berenato, Barbara Lozier, Chris Pariseau, Mary Lou Samowski, Betty Bosch,Norma Graytock, Marlene Sherman, Patsy Finnegan, Georgia Grant, Jeannette Folsom& Pat Allen.Social ActivitiesBridgeDuplicate Bridge &DinnerNorth/South1st Paul Crenshaw & Sherry Steffey2nd Willis & Joyce Heim3rd Richard & Mary Alice SchaferWinners ~ February 24, 2010North/South1st Paul Crenshaw & Sherry Steffey2nd Art & Donna Troy3rd Bob Beckwith & Joan KoenigNorth/SouthTied 1st/2nd Jim & Karen McKayPaul Crenshaw & Sherry Steffey3rd Jane Quayle & June KleinTied 4th/5th Bill & Barbara LozierBob & Norma GraytockEast/West1st Bill & Barbara LozierTied 2nd /3rd Jane Quayle & June KleinDiane Dyer & MimiWinners ~ March 10, 2010Winners ~ April 7, 2010East/West1st Willis & Joyce Heim2nd Dennis & Colleen Tasler3rd Tom & Joan ColemanEast/West1st Willis & Joyce Heim2nd Don & Cecile PoileTied 3rd/4th Art & Donna TroyMarilyn Wood & Evelyn HummelsteinHope to see everyone back in the fall –thanks for playing and have a good summer.♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Couples Bridge & DinnerWinners ~ February 19, 20101st Willis & Joyce Heim 2nd George & Nancy WoltzWinners ~ March 3, 20101st Willis & Joyce Heim 2nd Stan Lewis & Joan MannWinners ~ March 24, 20101st Art & Donna Troy 2nd Willis & Joyce HeimWinners ~ April 14, 20101st Willis & Joyce Heim 2nd Stan Lewis & Joan MannSeason Winners1st Willis & Joyce Heim, 2nd Stuart & Mary Kaye Goldblatt3rd Paul Crenshaw & Sherry Steffey, 4th Jean Scholtens5th Jane Quayle & Lilo Waxman♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Men’s Bridge GroupMeets every Wednesday morning at 10:00 am and play till 3:00 pmwith a lunch break at 12 noon. Margo DuganFitness FriendsWWhat an interesting season we have endured! The severe weatherand disasters here and around the world certainly gave us plenty to talkabout. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who were affected by thedamaging storms and devastating earthquakes.I would like to thank Mr. Procacci, Mr. Saadeh, and Mr. Graham forapproving the purchase of our new LifeFitness Cable Crossover JungleGym. We went from a three station unit to five stations and addedapproximately 50 more exercise possibilities! I knowthat it was intimidating for some at first (along withthe moving of some pieces to make room for the largerunit..oh no…change!) but the majority have masteredthe set up and execution of some great new exercises aswell as adjusting the old ones. I posted a sign statingthat the weight stacks equal ½ the amount you wereworking with before (ie: if you were lifting 50 lbs, you should now use 25lbs.) The add on weights are equivalent to 2½ lbs when added to the topof the weight stack. Also, each cable accessory has its own clip. Please donot remove the clips when changing handles or bars. As a courtesy to fellowmembers and staff, please return the accessories to their appropriate placeon the rack so that nothing gets lost or broken. Please ask a staff memberfor assistance if you have any questions regarding the new piece. I think itwill serve us well for many years. We have a new system in place for class status. It took us a while to getit going, but it seems to be working thus far. Each morning, the outgoingvoicemail message will say if classes are being held or canceled and whetherTone Class will be held outside or inside. I also implemented an email treefor class status, updates, and gathering feedback from participants. If yougave us your email and have not been contacted or would like to be added, email me at vccfitness@vineyardscc.net. You can also call or stop by.I know many of you enjoy the magazines we have here in the FitnessCenter. Most of these are brought in by members to share, which I appreciatevery much. I would like to ask that if you take one home to finish reading, please return it the next day. I like the idea of the book exchange in thelocker rooms so maybe we can try the “Take one, leave one” system for ourmagazines. Then everyone will have a chance to enjoy! Many of you are already home and I wish you a safe, happy & healthysummer. Hopefully, everyone will get to enjoy some comforting sunshinein their part of the country. Don’t be surprised if there are more upgradeswhen you return. All of these changes are for the betterment of yourpersonal fitness and for our continued success as a complete state-of-theartfacility. I promise I will guide you through the transition! We will bemaking adjustments of our hours and staff availability for the summer soplease watch for signs posted in the fitness center. On a sad note, we will be saying good-bye to our newest trainer, Bill, ashe and his fiancé are heading to California to try their hand at success in thebig leagues. He will be missed as he brought professionalism and guidanceto our team and helped out tremendously in every aspect of the job. Wewish them both the best of luck and we hope to keep in touch. Thanks for a great season and keep up your fitness regimen whereveryou may be this summer!Fitness NewsMay – JulyFitness ScheduleTARGET & TONEWednesday & Friday8:30am-9:30amClasses held outside next to the pool.
