Comprehensive Systematic Review TrainingThis program is designed to prepare researchers and clinicians to develop, conduct andreport comprehensive systematic reviews of evidence. The program is design <strong>for</strong> healthcare professionals who want to play a leading role in developing clinical evidence basedon qualitative or quantitative research findings. The aim is that the participants developa protocol <strong>for</strong> a systematic review, undertake the review and submit it <strong>for</strong> publicationwithin a year.This course is offered in cooperation between Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), Adelaide,Australia and Centre <strong>for</strong> Clinical Guidelines – Danish National Clearinghouse <strong>for</strong> Nursing.During the course you will be introduced to the Cochrane Review Manager software andthe Joanna Briggs Institute SUMARI software, this program has been undertaken byover 1000 participants from over 35 countries and continues to be our most successful.Participants who successfully complete the program are certified by the Joanna BriggsInstitute as competent in the systematic review process. (1) seven-hour study day. This module is a foundation to the subsequent modules andis a pre-requisite <strong>for</strong> enrolment in modules 2-5. The program is designed <strong>for</strong> graduatesin health in<strong>for</strong>mation management, allied health disciplines (such as physiotherapy,occupational therapy, podiatry, radiography, etc), nursing and medicine who have asound knowledge of research methods. The program offers participants the opportunityto examine the history and development of evidence-based healthcare and theprocesses of evidence-based practice. The program hasa process orientation whereby the participant and Joanna Briggs Institute facilitatorsbecome active participants in meeting learning needs. Underpinning this approach isclearly defined content contained in extensive printed course material..Aims: To enable participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of thepurposes and principles of evidence based healthcare.Objectives: To prepare participants to:• describe the origins and development of evidence based healthcare,• critique the role of evidence in contemporary healthcare practice,• describe and discuss the systematic review process, and• develop a systematic review protocol.Expected Professional Outcomes: Participants, who complete this program, will beable to identify sources of evidence of the feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulnessand effectiveness of health activities and interventions, and will be able to apply them indeveloping a systematic review protocol. They will recognise the importance of evidencein professional practice and have a commitment to the evidence based practiceapproach.Assessment: Successful completion of a thirty (30) minute multiple choice and shortanswer knowledge test.Module 3: Systematic Review of quantitative data from experimental,non-experimental, diagnostic and prognostic studiesProgram Overview: This module consists of eight hours pre-course reading and two(2) seven-hour study days. Aims: To enable participants to critically appraise, extract and pool quantitativeevidence generated by non-experimental designs, diagnostic studies and prognosticstudies.Objectives: To prepare participants to:• utilise the JBI SUMARI software,• critically appraise the results of studies of a number of non-experimental designs,diagnostic studies and prognostic studies,• extract data from quantitative, non-experimental studies, diagnostic studies andprognostic studies pool the results of homogenous studies.Expected Professional Outcomes: Participants who complete this program willunderstand how to conduct a systematic review of evidence generated by nonexperimentalstudies, diagnostic studies and prognostic studies.Assessment: Development of a dr<strong>af</strong>t review protocol; individual presentation of reviewprotocol.Module 4: The Systematic Review of Evidence generated byqualitative research, narrative and textProgram Overview: This module consists of eight hours pre-course reading and two(2) seven-hour study days.
