Preparatory <strong>Language</strong> CourseThe ma<strong>in</strong> purpose of the course is to give students the necessary language basis <strong>in</strong> German, English andFrench for their further studies <strong>in</strong> <strong>Switzerland</strong>. The course of study is based on 20 lessons of German(English and French are optional). <strong>St</strong>udents work <strong>in</strong> groups with their teachers as well as <strong>in</strong>dividually,concentrat<strong>in</strong>g on their personal needs, <strong>in</strong> our learn<strong>in</strong>g resource centre. Successful completion of thecourse requires considerable personal effort and home study. We aim particularly to encourage sociallym<strong>in</strong>dedand <strong>in</strong>dependent learn<strong>in</strong>g, because the acquisition of a foreign language is an ongo<strong>in</strong>g process.After complet<strong>in</strong>g one semester of German (Beg<strong>in</strong>ners Level I), the participants should be able to expressthemselves l<strong>in</strong>guistically <strong>in</strong> all important everyday situations and should understand and participate <strong>in</strong>naturally-paced conversation. The language skills acquired at Beg<strong>in</strong>ners Level 1are strengthened. The purposes of speech, themes, texts andgrammatical structures are broadened, as is the active and passivevocabulary. Listen<strong>in</strong>g, read<strong>in</strong>g, speak<strong>in</strong>g and writ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> variouseveryday situations are tra<strong>in</strong>ed and improved. After the thirdsemester, the German course leads to CEF Level B1 and to LevelB2 after the fourth semester.
