This one year Level 2 course is designed for 16-18 year olds looking to seek employmentwithin the outdoor adventure industry.Adventure recreation is one of the fastest growing sectors of employment with more andmore people wanting to experience adventurous activities for personal, social and groupdevelopment.The CourseThe Level 2 Diploma in Outdoor Adventure qualification provides a foundation oftheoretical knowledge and practical skills in readiness for a career in the outdooradventure or leisure industry. The course combines theory with practical application,developing your personal activity skills, activity management and leadership attributes.Units include:Anatomy and Physiology: exploring the skeletal system and the main bones, jointsand movement.Leading Outdoor and Adventurous Activities: focusing on the development ofleadership skills in outdoor and adventurous activities.Planning and running a sports event: develop your knowledge and skills so you caneffectively plan, implement and review a sports event of your choice.Expedition Experience: you should expect to spend a significant amount of time in theopen countryside whilst undertaking this unit.Fitness Testing and Training: assess your current fitness levels and performance.Tel: 08456 122 122Email: enquiries@capel.ac.uk Website: www.capel.ac.uk


Entry RequirementsThe course is designed for 16-18 year olds with a good standard of literacy and numeracysupported by a good general education with at least two GCSEs at grade D or above, or adistinction grade at Level 1 Certificate in Landbased Studies, together with high levels ofmotivation and interest in Outdoor Activities.Individual interviews can be arranged with a course tutor and to view college facilities.Training and Assessment MethodsThe course pathways are taught both in the classroom and through practical sessions.A large proportion of the course will involve students gaining practical experience inadventurous activities. These take place in a variety of woodland and other countrysidesites and much of the practical work will take place at our Enfield centre.Assessments is continued throughout the course and is achieved via a variety ofassessment methods: coursework, written reports, delivery of practical session, practicalperformance, group work and presentation. There are no exams at the end of this course.Venue and FacilitiesThis course will take place at the main college centre in Enfield, although some of thework will take place off site.The Duchess of Devonshire Pavilion houses excellent library and IT facilities.Qualifications GainedSuccess on this course leads to the nationally recognised award of a Level 2 Diploma inOutdoor Adventure.ProgressionStudents gaining the Level 2 Diploma in Outdoor Adventure may progress to a Level 3Diploma, Subsidiary Diploma, Extended Diploma in Countryside Management or OutdoorAdventure, thus enhancing their career prospects.Tel: 08456 122 122Email: enquiries@capel.ac.uk Website: www.capel.ac.uk


Working in Outdoor AdventureOver the past 10 years the opportunities for working in Outdoor Adventure have increasedconsiderably. Advances in health and safety legislation has meant that employers requireskilled operatives who have underpinning knowledge of the industry. There is currently ademand for staff with practical skills and many of our students progress into employmentor further training.
