We work closely with localpolice and provide them with all necessarysupport to pursue the prosecution of offenderswhere it is possible.”Meanwhile figures show that the number ofchildren being treated at Ormskirk A&EDepartment has soared by almost 20% over thelast five years.Children admitted to the Accident andEmergency department increased from 20,815in 2007–8 to 21,959 in 2008–9 and some22,120 children admitted in 2009/10.Southport Hospital.There were 24,464 admitted in 2010/11,some 24,130 in 2011/12 and 24,371 in2012–3.Adults treated in the Accident and Emergencydepartment at Southport decreased overallfrom 47,443 in 2007–8 to in 47,230 in2012–13 despite rising from 2007/8 to2010/11.Shirley Coward, matron for child health, said:“We know from the feedback we get that thecare our staff provide at Ormskirk hospital isvery much appreciated by children’s parents.“There has been a national trend towardsmore children attending accident andemergency departments. We have also noticedmore children coming to see us from outsidethe hospital’s natural catchment area ofSouthport, Formby and West Lancashire.“However, it is important that parentsexamine their options before bringing a childto A&E.
