6MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 2013WORLD’S LARGEST FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTTHE GRIDIRON GAZETTEPlay Hard but Play Smart:Tips to Keep You in the GameWarm up Before you Play: Many athletes are injured in the initial minutesof game because they jump right in without warming up. So, take 5-10minutes to warm up gradually before going in and playing hard!Keep your Body Fed: Try and eat about 2 hours before your game to playat your peak performance. Post-game it is best to recover with some simplecarbohydrates (food or sports drinks) to replenish glycogen stores.Stay Well-Hydrated: Just a bit of dehydration will decrease yourperformance! <strong>It</strong>'s recommended that you drink about a quart of water withintwo hours of play, and then drink a cup every fifteen minutes during thegame.Don’t Continue to Play if you are in Pain: The game shouldn't cause pain,so at the first twinge of acute, or sharp pains, stop playing. Pain is yourbody's way of saying, "hey, something is wrong." Pushing through acute painis the fastest way to develop a severe or chronic injury. If you don't feel well, sit out and rest for a while. You can also stop by the ENMMC sponsoredmedical tent for a free evaluation.Rest and Recover: Athletes need rest, proper nutrition and a good night'ssleep to recover for the next big game. Be sure to get a good meal and agood night’s sleep during the tournament; your body will thank you for it!Last but not least, don’t forget the sunscreen! Our pledge:Togetyou backinthegame.www.enmmc.comw w.m . c m
