Birthday CelebrationsBirthday celebrations are an important part of a child’s life. We want to makesure each child in our room feels special by allowing the opportunity to celebratewith their peers. We would like to make a time line of your child. Please send onepicture for each year of your child’s life. Please plan a birthday celebration foryour child with the teacher.Daily Folders~ Calendar Agenda~We will be using the following behavior management system:Smiley Face- EXCELLENT BEHAVIORStraight Face- BEHAVIOR NEEDS SOME WORK, HAVING DIFFICULTYSad Face- IMPROVEMENT NEEDEDYour child’s behavior will be recorded daily on their calendar. Please be sure to goover your child’s calendar <strong>and</strong> discuss their behavior with them. Please initial thecalendar to indicate that you have seen it. Teachers <strong>and</strong> parents work together asa team.~Homework~Homework will be sent home every Monday <strong>and</strong> is due by Friday. Your child mayneed some additional assistance with assignments, but please do not complete thehomework for them. In addition, we ask that you read to or with your child everynight.Snacks/BreakfastYour child will receive a daily healthy snack through the USDA’s Fresh Fruit &Vegetable Program. In addition, Breakfast will be served daily in each classroom.


Procedures <strong>and</strong> Non-Instructional RoutinesEntering/Exiting the classroom/ Lining up:When entering the room in the morning, students hang up their book bags <strong>and</strong>turn in their daily agendas. When exiting the classroom for lunch students line upin alphabetical order. When going to recess <strong>and</strong> related arts, we have adesignated line leader <strong>and</strong> caboose.~Morning Routine~When students enter the room after the 7:45 am bell, they are expected tounpack <strong>and</strong> hang up their book bags in the cubbies. They are to place theiragendas into the agenda basket.~Restroom procedures~Students are lined up <strong>and</strong> taken to the bathroom by the teacher <strong>and</strong> assistantthree times a day. If students have to use the restroom during instruction, theywill touch the teacher on the shoulder <strong>and</strong> be escorted by teacher or assistant.~Hall behavior~Students walk in the hallways face forward in alphabetical order with h<strong>and</strong>sbehind their backs when escorted to lunch <strong>and</strong> specials. They are to be silent asthey walk throughout the building.~Lunchroom~Students line up in alphabetical order with h<strong>and</strong>s behind their backs <strong>and</strong> quietlyescorted to the lunchroom. They are expected to enter the lunchroom quietly <strong>and</strong>pick up all needed items before sitting at assigned table. Students must eatbefore talking to classmates <strong>and</strong> must use a 5-inch voice. When the teacher givesthe signal that lunch is over, students are to pick up all trash off the table <strong>and</strong>floor <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong> facing the trashcans. The table washers dump their trays first<strong>and</strong> then the rest of the class follows behind them.


~Recess~During recess, students are not allowed to participate in rough play orcontact sports (football, tag, etc.) due to risk of injury. Recess will be heldindoors if weather <strong>and</strong> outside temperatures are not adequate.~Playground Rules~Always stop at the end of the hall when going to theplaygroundStay inside the fenced areaLineup when the teacher signalsGo up the ladder, down the slide <strong>and</strong> no walking up the slideSwing facing the buildingNo rough playing <strong>and</strong> pushing on the playgroundNo running near playground equipment <strong>and</strong> walk carefullynear the swings~Car Line Rules~Walk to car lineSit quietly in section <strong>and</strong> stay thereKeep h<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> feet to yourselfListen for your number to be calledNo food or drinks allowedDo not throw anything


.~Walkers ~ Bus Riders Afterschool~Taken out by designated personsWalk slowly <strong>and</strong> quietly to the designated areasMust be dismissed to an adult or older student~Fire Drills~Fire drills are practiced on a monthly basis. The fire alarm will sound alertingeveryone that the fire drill has begun. Teachers are to evacuate the students asquickly <strong>and</strong> quietly as possible. Students will exit the building through the firstdoor on Hall E. Students will begin lining up near the tree marked with an E. Thestudents are to st<strong>and</strong>, facing the building in a straight line. The teacher willfollow the class to the designated area <strong>and</strong> utilize the class role to ensureeveryone is accounted for. If everyone is accounted for, the teacher will hold upthe green card. If someone is not accounted for, the teacher will hold up theyellow card with the missing student’s name. If a student is hurt, the teacher willhold up a red card. An appointed person will tell the teacher when they can reenterthe building. An evacuation plan is posted in the classroom.~Tornado Drills~Under a tornado drill or warning, students <strong>and</strong> faculty should take coverimmediately <strong>and</strong> when the signal sounds all students will move immediately to thehall area. Students are instructed to get on their knees, make sure their headsface the interior walls, <strong>and</strong> place their h<strong>and</strong>s over their heads. Students willmaintain this position until the bell rings.


~Bomb Threats~In the event of a bomb threat, students will line up quickly <strong>and</strong> orderly. Asstudents exit the room, the teacher will leave a green card in the window ifeverything in the room appears normal. If anything appears suspicious, theteacher will leave a red card. The teacher will follow the class to the designatedarea <strong>and</strong> use the class role to ensure every student is accounted for. If everyoneis accounted for, the teacher will hold up the green card. If someone is missing,the teacher will hold up the yellow card with the missing students’ names. If astudent is hurt, the teacher will hold up a red card.~Intruder in the Building~If an intruder enters the building an Administrator will give the code phrase forthe staff to immediately lock their door or go to the nearest safe area. Allstudents <strong>and</strong> staff go immediately to the designated area in their classroom.Remain quiet until administrator comes over the intercom.
