POTENTATE’S MESSAGEHello Nobles and Ladies! If you missed the FallCeremonial in ElizabethCity, you missed a greattime! The Guys and Girlsfrom the Elizabeth CityShrine Club and Buccaneersworked tirelessly formonths in advance to puton a wonderful Ceremonialfor Sudan. The GolfTournament, the hospitality, the parade, the eveningevents, all went without even a bump in the road. Eventhe weather cooperated with lots of sunshine to quicklywarm those cool mornings.I must tell you just how much I have enjoyed servingSudan Shriners for the last nine years. I hear manyholding office make comments like “I only have 45 daysleft”. I have never wished my time on the Divan or asyour Potentate away. It has been a thrill and an honor.Something I looked forward to on a daily basis. Just apassing thought, a few short years ago became a dream, then a reality, and very soon now, a fond memory. Peggyand I have met so many great people and have acquiredlasting friendships. Thank you so very much for allowingme to serve you.I would like to thank the Divan officers, currentand past, that I served with for their advice and support. The office and temple staff has been exceptional. The clubs and units have been most supportive. And then there’s the Rocky Mount bunch. What agreat group of Nobles and Ladies. They “self imposed”the charge of putting on the best Spring Ceremonial inmemory and they did. I still receive compliments fromthe great time they showed everyone in May. ThanksRocky Mount! You’re the best and a model for all toemulate! What a wonderful organization. There is no otherorganization where the emphasis is on “FUN” and hassuch a dramatic effect on the lives of the children andfamilies that we serve. Peggy and I will never forget thesupport that you showed us after our house burned inJanuary 20121March 2010. I can equate the gratitude that we feltwith the gratitude that the mothers and fathers havewhen we reach out and help those kids in need. Thankyou for all you do to help support our 22 Shriners Hospitalsfor Children.I close now by thanking each of you once more, asking you to keep the excitement going and supportyour incoming 2012 leadership team as you have thisone. Helping with just one event, supporting one fundraiser, selling and buying one ticket, recommendingone child, when each of us does just one thing, we, asSudan Shriners accomplish great things.Thank you all for you love and support in 2011 andthanks for “Helping just 1 in Oh! one one”.By the time you read this, the Christmas holidaysand New Years celebrations will have passed. Peggy andI hope that you have had a wonderful holiday season.Bruce BulluckPotentateSudan ShrinersPUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR!Shrine Club & UnitSHRINE LEADERSHIPSEMINARWhere: Sudan ShrinersDate: February 18, 2012Topics to DiscussClub / Unit By-lawsTemple BudgetShrine OperationsHospitals / PatientsFundraising Programs &ProceduresInsurance RegulationsShrine ProtocolAll Shrine Club / Unit Officers Urged to AttendRed Fez

RECORDER’S MESSAGEAnother year has passedand with it your support ofSudan Shriners and ShrinersHospitals For Children (SHC)is acknowledged and most appreciated.I know of no othertemple who’s Nobility, theirLadies, families and friends areso dedicated.I hope to see you at theWinter Ceremonial in NewBern on 27 and 28 January2012 and encourage you to attend the Annual StatedBusiness Meeting on Saturday morning, 28 January. Thisis your temple. Take part in its future. As we look back onto 2011, I know you join me inexpressing appreciation to Illustrious Sir Bruce Bulluckand Lady Peggy for their many years of service. I knowthey will continue serving Sudan and SHC. Thank youIllustrious Sir Bruce and Lady Peggy for all you have doneand continue to do.As Sudan’s tradition has it, Chief Rabban Steve Norrisis about to assume leadership of Sudan Shriners. Heand Lady Traci are well suited to serve Sudan in 2012.Our Fall Ceremonial in Elizabeth City saw the creationof 25 New Shriners, and accepted one Affiliate andone Associate. Please invite these new Nobles to join yourclubs and units. They need and deserve your guidance. As I prepare this message, Sudan’s headquartersbuilding is still in need of repairs from the hurricane damageof late August (had to wait on insurance) and we stillhave a long way to go to complete needed renovations. Our building is old and although structurally sound, timehas taken a toll. We’ll get there if we all pitch in.Our membership continues a net decline. Non-paymentof dues is a contributing factor. Please encouragefellow Nobles to pay their dues on time. Sudan operatesfrom member dues. We all realize there are circumstancesof true financial hardships that plague some members. Wehave a fund to assist those who find themselves withoutadequate means to pay their dues. If you know of a memberin such a situation please inform the Recorder’s office.See you at the Winter Ceremonial!Yours in the Faith,January 2012Benny SmithRecorder2NOTICEThe Annual Session of Sudan Shrinerswill be held in the Shrine AuditoriumNew Bern, NCJanuary 28, 2012For the election of Potentate, Divan Officers, Trustees,Imperial Council Representatives, SASA Representativesand New Candidates: the 2012 Budget Approval and thetransaction of such other business as may properly comebefore the temple.Imperial By-laws Article 325.11: Election Regulations(a) Electioneering. She oncetold me that her goal in lifewas to be able to walk acrossthe stage and receive her highschool diploma. On May 15,2010, she walked across thestage and received her AssociatesDegree from NashCommunity College and onMay 25, 2010, she walkedacross the stage and receivedher high school diploma fromNash Rocky Mount Early College. She then received afull scholarship to the University of North Carolina atChapel Hill. She has met and exceeded her goals and expectations. But it came with a devastating tragedy of losing hermother, Donna, one year ago this month at UNC whilepreparing for her first classes. She started classes in thespring of this year and did very well by making A’s in allthree courses she took. Her new goals are to graduatefrom UNC and go on to become a doctor of pediatrics. On July 22 nd , Jesse made her last trip to the ShrinersHospital for Children in Greenville, S.C. The doctorsand staff are already missing her beautiful smile and warmpersonality. Speaking as one of the many Roadrunnerdrivers, I will certainly miss seeing her. I think of her as adaughter, who at the age of 20, is spreading her wings andheaded to new adventures. There is no doubt in my mindthat she will succeed. This is only one story of the more than one hundredchildren of the Wilson, Nash, Wayne counties and thesurrounding areas that we take to the Shriners Hospitalsfor Children. I would like for everyone to pray for thesechildren who are getting their second chance for a normallife.G. That is where she was diagnosed. Her doctor in New Bern, who is an orthopedic doctor told us he would never have found it.We have made 8 trips to the hospital with her, with four of thesewith the Road Runners. They are a great group of men and women, taking their time to drive the vans to take us there and back. They are very courteous and helpful. I can’t thank them enoughfor what they have done. The doctors and staff at the hospital arevery wonderful and caring people. They have my heartfelt gratitudeand thanks. I tell everybody how nice everyone involved hasbeen and I recommend that if they know a child who needs help,to get in contact with the Shriners to get their child the help theyneed. I will do my best to help support the Shriners in any wayI can thru donations, annual fish frys, or in any way. My manythanks to ALL of the Shriners and Road Runners, I have had thepleasure to come in contact with. Keep up the good work.Thank you very much,Annie Baker, grandmother of AshleyA-1 Tree, Inc.252-636-06113301 Old Cherry Pt. Rd.New Bern, NC 28560a1treeinc@gmail.com252-636-3148 FaxEarl W.
