RA-01RADAR ALTIMETERRA-01 RADAR ALTIMETER DESCRIPTIONThe RA‐01 Radar Altimeter provides AGL (Above GroundLevel) altitude information from 0’ to 1.500’.The RA‐01 Rd Radar Altimeter t system consists it of a one RA‐01Main Unit, one RA‐01D Display and two AntennasRA-01 MAIN UNIT DESCRIPTION– The RA 01 radar altimeter main unit works in FMCW (FM Continuous Wave) mode to provide anaccurate measure in a wide range of altitudes, from very low ones up to the maximum of thenstrument. Made entirely of high technology SMD components, its reliability is very high even incase of strong G‐forces.– Designed with a state‐of‐the‐art DSP the unit performs a very fast calculation and supervision ofits functions.• The frequency deviation and sweep is dynamically adapted by theDSP to achieve down to 1’ resolution in low altitudes.• The RA 01 provides three outputs: one according to ARINC‐429BNR, high speed; another one PWM, by contact to ground withfrequency of 4 kHz and duty cycle as a faction of 1000 m. (3281’) inincrements of 1’. The third output is a customizable RS232 serialnterface.• The unit is equipped with two SMA connectors for RF Tx and Rx, aswell astwo D‐type ones for display and powering.– Very small and robust, the unit has four appropriate anchorage points to fix it to any surface in theaircraft.RA-01D DIGITAL INDICATOR DESCRIPTION– The RA 01D digital display is a compact subsystem that can be mounted in any standard aviationpanel due to its 2.25” diameter.– The RA 01D has two displays (one for AGL and one for DH),as well as visual and aural indications of differentconfigurable conditions (below DH, GEAR warning orabove ULM altitude) as well as out‐of‐range alarm.– The DH altitude is configurable my mean of a turningpush‐button, which is also used to perform a system test.– The GEAR and ULM conditions are set in installation by meanof small knobs in the rear panel of the unit.– When powered up, the RA‐01D lights every visual indication (the displays show 8888 and 888) andemits a short beep to allow the pilot to check that all the indications are working properly.– If the RA 01 detects a malfunction or that it is out of range, the RA 01D AGL display shows fourdashes (‐‐‐‐) as described in ARINC 707‐7 to indicate the fault condition.
