It is <strong><strong>the</strong>re</strong>fore vitalthat <strong><strong>the</strong>re</strong> should be prior consultation with regard to <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong>meals/snacks when a child with a pe<strong>an</strong>ut allergy enrols <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school.It is very import<strong>an</strong>t to br<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> school mealsdepartment <strong>an</strong>y specific diets that your pupils require. You shouldprovide a copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> diet sheet along with <strong>the</strong> name <strong>an</strong>d telephone<strong>number</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pupil to <strong>the</strong> relev<strong>an</strong>t area m<strong>an</strong>ager with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> school mealsdepartment. If <strong>the</strong> pupil is <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> free meals register <strong>the</strong> board <strong>has</strong> a legalobligation to provide a meal <strong>an</strong>d will do so, work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> close liaison with<strong>the</strong> pupil’s parent or guardi<strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>d school.Where <strong>the</strong> board <strong>has</strong> no legal obligation it would be preferable if <strong>the</strong>parent/guardi<strong>an</strong> provided <strong>the</strong> child with a packed lunch <strong>an</strong>d also suitablesweets/treats if <strong>the</strong> school’s policy allows such items.Children should be dissuaded from swapp<strong>in</strong>g foods at lunch breaks.Never <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>the</strong> affected child <strong>an</strong>y food if you are uncerta<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>in</strong>gredients.Outdoor activities/school tripsArr<strong>an</strong>gements should be discussed <strong>in</strong> adv<strong>an</strong>ce with <strong>the</strong> parents. Anemergency kit should be carried at all times <strong>an</strong>d a tra<strong>in</strong>ed member <strong>of</strong> staffshould accomp<strong>an</strong>y <strong>the</strong> group on school trips.
