Reviews of the album PassagesAnodine is a bandwhich can reallyoffer something newwith theirkaleidoscopic,genre-defyingapproach [...]One of the best ,most forwardthinkingandambitious debuts of2013 without adoubt!Germany has notoriously been spitting out some ofthe most edgy, revolutionary and groundbreakingelectronic music out there over the past 3 decades, not only setting up the ground for electronic music, but also exploring the genre, the productionnuances, its sonic boundaries and possibilities, itsseveral shapes, attitudes and contaminations. The very same country has also earned another staron the music history wall of fame for being a veryspeciel, absolutely unique focal point for dark music:the “official” birthplace of goth culture, a movement(if you wanna call it like that) which gave a differentface to “darkness” in music, transforming elementsthat were never thought as being “commercial” into“pop”. Sure, not your usual pop, but still. This scenemanaged to to push the boundaries and addingsomething new to the global music scene.Hailing from Dusseldorf, Anodine is a project led byPatrick Heyer that definitely falls fully in line witheverything that was just mentioned above. Thewhole point of my lengthy introduction was toactually point out that this project is embracing thespirit of its cultural environment, acting as achanneling network, a so-called melting pot, whereall of these influences brilliantly crash, in asuccessful attempt to deliver something reallyunique, in the formal of a very personal sound, somewhere in-between trip-rock, electro, industrialand psychedelia.Anodine’s debut album “Passages” finally sees the light of day in 2013, a few years after the project’sincipit in 2008. This album was definitely well worth the wait: Anodine didn’t settle for anything but areally well produced and detailed album, featuring 16 tracks for an astonishing 80 minutes of music(something that happens really rarely these days).1 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album PassagesIf we have drag in comparisons, The overall sound makes me think of a bizarre meeting between NineInch Nails, Mew and Rammstein. The classy and edgy approach of the first combines perfectly with thetwangy guitars and wide-open melodies of the second, with a touch of the wall of sound and power ofthe third.Influences aside, Anodine is a band which can really offer something new with their kaleidoscopic, genredefyingapproach that could have only been so natural and well balanced coming from a country withsuch an eclectic and colorful cultural scene as Germany is these days.“Passages” is a real musical journey, with each of the 16 featured tracks bringing the listener to a differentdestination, while keeping some watermarks intact throughout the album’s entire playing time: The keyelement of Anodine’s music is arguably in the contrast of sounds: Dramatic, melancholic and beautifulmelodies of vocals, guitars and synth beautifully collide with the cold, granitic wall of distorted bass andguitars, driven by a tight and metronomic rhythm section. My idea of the album being a “musical journey” is sort of confirmed by the production of the record itself:The album is in fact meant to be enjoyed with no breaks between tracks, a continuous and everchallenging flow of music, hitting the listeners with an impressive variety of sounds. For the non-initiated,Anodine could very well remind of successful acts such as Muse, Incubus or Radiohead, incorporating theheavy, epic sound of the former and the alternative, edgy approach of the latter bands.Dark and mesmerizing, this 80 minutes trip is also fitting really well with its given title “Passages”, areference to “the hidden doorways that enable one to reach various places of the astral planes”. Theimaginary of the band suggests mysticism, supernatural beauty and a love for occult art, as the enigmaticartwork very well showcases.Anodine is definitely one of those names you want to keep track of. One of the best , most forwardthinkingand ambitious debuts of 2013 without a doubt!Andrea Caccese (Paper Wings Music)February 21, 2013Link2 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album PassagesDanke für diesenwunderbarenOHRgasmus.Höchstnote!!!!Was für ein grauer bescheidener Alltag.

Reviews of the album PassagesUnd genau da ist das Zauberwort…Konzept. Reviews of the album PassagesIt is easy to get lostin the soundscape ofthe album even atmoments when itseems to get toodark, the productionpulls you right backout and into theastral plane of musicthat "Passages"represents.Rating: 9/10The album begins with the trance-like soundscapeof "Antilight" which slowly begins to set the tone forthe at-times gloomy theme of the album. Mysteriousin where it will take you, it is a fitting beginning forthe hypnotic soundscape which "Passages" is madeup from. Immediately following Antilight, "Color OfThis Place" booms in with heavy guitars and the triprock experience begins. The chorus asks thequestion "Who I Am? My Flesh, My Blood, My spirit",opening the doors to self-reflection and showcasinga bit of the vocal range Anodine's lead singer iscapable of reaching. The 3rd track, "Dark Side ofVenus" is a standout track that pulls you deeper intoemotion over some of the album's best production. You can't help but want to move over to the rawaggression in the guitars."Into The White Light" questions and reflects onwhat we believe and believe in, asking for thetangible and while questioning human weakness.Another stand out track that features greatproduction and vocals. "Break Away" takes a morehardcore turn with low toned vocals over a meaninstrumental. Its literally screams to be free fromdrama and is a cry for freedom from pain. "The Virus"seems to pick up where "Break Away" left off butfrom the standpoint of a man damaged, caughtbetween giving up and fighting to keep movingforward. It is sonically the perfect follow up."Hidden Places" slides back into a self-reflective state, with lyrics that create visuals of an almost Matrixlike building of secret doors, with secrets hidden in each room. Its almost like sonically traveling throughan astral plane. "No Summer" describes the emotion of a cold heart scorned by another heart just as coldand the refusal to allow such pain again. The next track warns of a pending "Storm", this track almostmakes you wait in anticipation of what may be. It is melodically one of the stand out tracks on "Passages".It is an anthem for the readiness of the unknown troubles that await. "Dark Field" plunges into thetroubles "Storm" may have been alluded to as it describes an evil entity controlling, watching and waitingfor his, or their, move.1 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album Passages"Somewhere, Sometime, Somehow" asks for a second chance to make right a wrong and the possibility ofit being so. It has a great bridge and break down halfway through that showcases more of this albumssuperb production. "City" kicks in the door with heavy hitting drums and guitar riffs. An excellentmetaphoric explanation of the City as a person breaking down the damage and sustenance it providesfor its occupiers."This Moment" speaks on the pursue of fame and the sacrifice to get it. Its dark, but an anthem for livingin the moment and swimming through the darkness it takes to reach it. "Room 23" seeks a release frompain and asks for someone to come along carry the load. You can almost picture a man sulking in hisroom waiting for someone to walk through the door. "Resistance" is a rise to arms against deception, particularly self-deception. It begs the listener to become free from their own mental bondage andbecome the cause of themselves. "She Calls", the final track on "Passages", booms in with an aggressivedrum roll and completes the album with a melodic, trance like, but energetic finish.Overall the album boast's high quality production, excellent musical composition and is very hypnotic. Itis socially and self-reflective, traveling deep into the question of "Who I Am". By the finish of the album, you may have a better answer to that question. It is easy to get lost in the soundscape of the album evenat moments when it seems to get too dark, the production pulls you right back out and into the astralplane of music that "Passages" represents.Rating: 9/10Adi Ladson (Digiindie.com)February 24, 2013Link2 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

They possessan extremely tight-knit sound that mixes melodywith rock and thrash, at free will. The guitars oftencome in bloodletting spurts, and the heavy vibe, tosongs like “Color Of This Place,” “Dark Side Of Venus,”and “Break Away,” all hearken back to a heavy metalage when bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maidenruled, not that these guys sound like anything thosebands by a long-shot it’s just that Anodine has anaura to its sound, reminiscent of where bands likeMaiden and Sabbath came from. Anodine take thoseclassic rock rhythms and mix it to the modernalternative sound of bands like the Muse, then throwin the creative atmosphere of Massive Attack, tocreate an original hybrid sound, that is nothing lessthan adrenalin pumping.A tinge of Power-rock also makes confined appearances across the album, though not nearly radio readyhits, some songs have an absolutely modern, catchy appeal, mostly due to the freshly styled vocals. Attimes speed metal, at times heavy pop, at times dark metal, at times ambient trip rock, Anodine can’t bepinned down to any one sound. Some tunes are even driven by what sounds like operatic arrangements,a perfectly stunning touch for any modern rock album, let alone an indie one.1 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album PassagesIndeed, “Passages” seems to be a combination of riff-heavy metal and an eclectic, experimental approach. The result is an album cram full of twisted guitars, trippy vocals, and eccentric song structures, sure toplease even the most discriminating rock fan. The album, which after the opening track, “Antilight,” firesout of the gate with the roaring “Color Of This Place.” From there on, the goods come hard and quickly, asthe next three songs are all no less than terrific. From “The Virus” on-wards the tracks take on an esoteric turn, with sounds that dig deep into a blackhole, drawing in endless epic-rock and grunge sounds, and moreover, spitting out bass riffs that groove ina hyper kinetic fury, that is so loud, it can split the calluses on your ears. “Storm,” “No Summer” and “SheCalls,” are perfect examples of this. This must be one of the most eclectic and ethereal indie rock albums in recent years, at least amonganything near the mainstream. But if you like rock that disregards boundaries while pounding the lesscoherent areas of your brain, then Anodine are definitely for you. It’s hard to know what to compare this album to. It’s not gimmicky nu-metal, or alternate thrash. It’s justgreat songwriting, great lyrics, and terrific instrumentation. It’s the most intelligent and well crafted triprock (if you have to put into this into a genre), I’ve heard in the indie arena, in a while!Rick Jamm (Jamsphere.com)February 25, 2013Link2 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album PassagesThis album tookmany years of hardwork, creativity, thought, production, and post productionto deliver amasterpiece to theworld. FeedbackFury gives the album“Passages” byAnodine an11 out 11!Anodine is a project driven by the German multiinstrumentalistPatrick Heyer. Their debut album“Passages” was released in January 2013. The albumfeatures 16 songs of atmospheric rock with reallystrong and interesting melodies. I would describetheir sound as a cross between Nine Inch Nails andKorn with a little David Bowie thrown in for somespice.Patrick has a really dark and foreboding voice thatreally carries most of the album. He creates reallymemorable melodies that carry you on apsychedelic journey. Lyrically, Heyer says he isstrongly influenced by his dreams. When listening tothis album, you can hear a dream like vocalpresence, but the music will wake you up with itsdark and powerful driving force. One of the standout tracks is “Dark Side of Venus” - areally interesting song with a cool driving rhythmand emotional performance by Heyer on vocals. Thesong builds up to a really strong chorus. The production value on “Passages” is fantastic. There are some subtle keyboard and synth partsthroughout the album that add to the overalltexture of the experience. Anodine likes to mix thecombination of hard rock guitars, atmospherickeyboards and synths with a drum beat to dance to.“Breakaway” has a killer guitar riff and driving progression that really jumps out of the speakers. Patrickreally digs in deep to deliver an intense vocal delivery.A lot of the songs written by Patrick are inspired by dreams. A prime example is some of the lyrics to“Breakaway.” “I awake to find I'm dead and it's OK, I'm content. The world is mine, just for a while, before Iforget again.”1 / 2Anodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de

Reviews of the album Passages“City” is another cool track on the album. It has a more straightforward rock arrangement approach withsome great electric guitar riffs that keep the song moving. Reviews of the album PassagesOverall this is anamazing albumwhich I thoroughlyenjoyed lettingmyself beimmersed in.Anodine – Prepare To Enter A Dark World OfAmazing SoundGreat music can come from many differentinfluences. Sometimes it is hearing a certain bandand their style that leads a musician to pursue asimilar dream. Sometimes it is other experiencesoutside of music that lead to the creation of a newstyle that comes from within. One artist that drawsfrom inspiration outside of the normal realm isAnodine. The German band is the brainchild of multiinstrumentalistPatrick Heyer, who beganexperimenting with writing and producing musicwhile in his teen years. He seems to be correct in declaring himself a rebel nonconformist. His musecomes to him in lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, occult literature, and controversial conceptionsof reality. His music is not meant for the masses but there is a large underground following ready to eatup his innovative style. Anodine’s genre could be described as dark trip rock with a goal of truly enteringthe listeners mind, not only his ears. Patrick was able to find some like minds in his quest for new music inHolger Girlich on Guitar, Fabian Siepen on Bass, and Jörg Skaramage on Drums.Back in January Anodine released their debut album Passages. The 16 track, over 80 minute epicwelcomes the listener into an alternate and much darker world with no promise of an escape. Theopening track ‘Antilight’ tries to prepare you for what you are about to hear with sonic explosions andmellow brainwashing keyboard lines. Songs such as ‘Color Of This Place’ and ‘Dark Side Of Venus’ aremore dark rock style songs in the vein of bands like Deftones and Korn. Aggressive, yet warm in a waykeeping the listener glued to his headphones. There is much experimenting here as Anodine combinesdifferent genres together to make something original with tracks like ‘The Virus’ and the schizophrenic‘Dark Field’. The production values of the album are top notch and sound as professional as any bigbudget darkwave album out there today. Overall this is an amazing album which I thoroughly enjoyedletting myself be immersed in. It seems like the dark soundscape music that seems to have fallen out offavor with the bubblegum pop crowd is still alive and well underground within Passages by Anodine. When you are ready to devote a full hour and a half to music that will make you feel deep inside your soulgo give this a listen at: http://anodinemusic.bandcamp.comKeith Pro (Indie Band Guru)April 30, 2013LinkAnodine c/o Patrick HeyerRosmarinstr. 12 E +49-211-7328835040235 Düsseldorf music@anodine.deGermanywww.anodine.de
