This willbe implemented by devices defined as Publisher and/orSubscriber. A publisher is a field device that reacts to a dataexchange request from the controller with one slight deviationfrom normal. Instead of sending the response only to thestation address of the requester, the publisher answers witha broadcast (that means everybody gets the answer). Inturn, a subscriber is a field device with another slight modification- in addition to the data exchange with the controller, italso listens to the broadcast data exchange response of apublisher and evaluates parts of the data that are relevant forit. The emergency button (connected to a failsafe input modulein the field device) is pushed.2. During the next communication cycle, the safety controller(e.g., a PLC that is able to handle the safety application andalso the standard automation task) sends output data to thefield device (including failsafe data according to thePROFISafe profile).3. The field device (configured as a Publisher)responds with input data (including failsafe dataaccording to the PROFISafe profile). The answeris sent as a broadcast, so every station connectedto the bus is addressed.4. The safety application in another field device(configured as a Subscriber) evaluates the relevantpart of the data unit and initiates the necessarysteps. In our example, load power needs tobe disabled via a failsafe output.5. The motor stops.This brings up the question, is a safety controlleralways necessary?
