REGISTRATION:An invitation is extended to all eligible figure skaters to participate in the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> SectionalChampionship Competition. <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> rules and regulations will apply throughout the competition unlessotherwise specified.Registration for this event is an online submission and must be completed in full in order for the entry to beaccepted.The detailed registration instructions are included in this announcement. Please refer to the end of the document.CLOSING DATE OF ENTRIES:Access to online registration will cease at 11:59pm on September 25, 2013. Registrations will be accepted onfirst come-first served basis with restrictions in certain categories to accommodate the scheduling of categories.Entries received after Wednesday September 25, 2013 and prior to 12noon EST on Tuesday October 1st,2013 are subject to a $200 late penalty. Entries received after 12 noon on Tuesday October 1st will not beconsidered.

PRACTICE SESSIONS:Practice ice is scheduled for all categories throughout the Championships. All practices will be 20 minutes without music.Schedule, Entries and Start Orders will be posted on the website at www.skatecanada-centralontario.com as they becomeavailable.Please refer the Qualifying Competition Handbook Paragraph 520 (8 (i) – (j).Upon registration or attendance at an officially scheduled practice session competitors are not permitted to skate onice other than the official practice or competition ice as scheduled for the event. Violators of this rule shall be subjectto suspension from the competition in question. This rule is applicable to all qualifying events including Regional/Sub-Sectional, Sectional, <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge and Canadian Championships.ON-SITE REGISTRATION:Registration will commence at the Thornhill Community Centre on Thursday, November 7, 2013 one hour prior to the firstscheduled practice. Competitors at Sectional Championships must register for the competition before their official practicesession immediately prior to the first portion of their event.All skaters must register all their music (short and free program) upon registering.<strong>Skate</strong>rs may pick up their music at the music registration desk one-half hour after completion of the category.MUSIC:Each entry must provide two CDs for the competition upon registration, one for competition - marked “Master” and onefor back up - marked “Copy”. These must be registered with music registration at least one hour prior to the posted starttime of the category and may not be removed for any reason until after the category is completed. Music must be pickedup within 30 minutes after completion of the category.All music used must be in the public domain or covered by the performing rights societies. Competitors who have musiccomposed specifically for their programs either wholly or in part, are responsible for obtaining a written release fromthe composer for the use of such music on radio and/or television or appropriate clearance from the performing rightssocieties.Entries will be refused if the music information on the online skating profile form is not complete, particularly the namesand composers of the music selections.Pre-Novice and Novice Dance competitors: The ISU pattern dance music to be used for all practices and events is the 2001Revised Version produced by the ISU.Standard Specifications for Music:(1) Only one program shall be recorded on each CD(2) The start of the music shall be recorded on the CD with less than two seconds of lead in.(3) Competitor’s name followed by category, program type – short or free, and music time shall be shown on the CDlabel.(4) Each CD shall be enclosed in a plastic case marked with the skater’s name, category, program type – short or free,and total music time.Awards:Standard <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Sectional Medals will be presented to the top three finishers of each event. In the case of onlyone entry in a category an exhibition shall be performed but no prize shall be awarded. The presentation schedule will beavailable at registration.


RULES AND REGULATIONSNo skater will be registered until all money owing is properly paid by the September 25th closing date. Your PayPal receiptof payment is your registration confirmation. Please print your receipt and retain for your records.Refunds and Withdrawals:Full refunds will be given for any cancelled categories. If an entry is withdrawn prior to September 25, 2013, a refund (lessan administrative fee of $35.00 per skater) will be granted.NOTE: NO REFUNDS (including medical) will be granted after Sept. 25, 2013.Qualification for Entry: Competitors wishing to enter shall have passed the tests for the various categories byOctober 1, 2013.Accreditation of Coaches:By-law 2403 (<strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Policies and Procedures) shall apply. In order to receive accreditation from <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> atSectionals, <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> professional coaches must be Intermediate STAR<strong>Skate</strong>/Provincial Coach Certified, be a currentProfessional Coaching Member of <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> and hold a valid First Aid Certificate. In addition, coaches must register inperson and show their <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Professional coach membership card, which includes their photo.New Coaches: New professional coaches who do not meet the above criteria for accreditation or funding will have three years inwhich to become Level 2/ISPC Certified and four years to become Level 3 Certified from the date of registering as a <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>Professional Coach.Two coaches per entry will be accredited. ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE (FROM SKATE CANADA RULE 5401)Entrants in Canadian Championships events, or qualifying events for Canadian Championships shall:(1) ELIGIBLE PERSON STATUS: Be eligible persons as defined in <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Rule Book Section 2100.(2) ASSOCIATE MEMBER: Be Associate members in good standing of the Association.(3) CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP: Be Canadian citizens within the meaning of the Citizenship Act, RSC 1985. If theindividual is not a Canadian citizen, such individual must have permanent resident status and have resided in<strong>Canada</strong> for at least one year prior to the date of the Championships they wish to enter. Also, if the entrant is oflegal age, the entrant must file a declaration to indicate that he intends in good faith to become a Canadiancitizen. If the entrant is an alien minor, he and the living parents (or guardians if both parents are deceased) musthave also filed a sworn statement with the Chief Executive Officer of <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> that said minor intends tobecome a citizen as soon as legally possible.In the case of a pair or an ice dance couple, at least one partner must be a Canadian citizen. The other partnermay be a citizen or resident of a country of any other ISU Member and need not reside in <strong>Canada</strong>.(4) ANTI-DOPING POLICY AND DOPING CONTROL POLICY: Agree to be subject to Association rules and regulationsregarding doping controls, on an announced or unannounced basis, as determined by the Board of Directors fromtime to time. Such rules and regulations shall be entitled “<strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Anti-Doping Policy and Doping ControlProgram” and shall be made available to potential entrants upon request to their Section or the National Office.(See <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Policies and Procedures.)QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY(Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph 515)(1) TEST PREREQUISITES: Competitors wishing to enter Sectionals and events leading to Sectionals shall have passedthe tests as listed in paragraph 510 of the Qualifying Competition Handbook (see below) before October 1stpreceding the Championships. A skater may also be considered qualified having passed a higher test or partsthereof as long as the minimum test requirement is fulfilled.(2) AGE PREREQUISITES: Competitors wishing to enter Sectionals and events leading to Sectionals shall meet the agerequirements to compete as listed in paragraph 510.(3) COMPETING IN SINGLES AT SECTIONALS: A skater may compete in Singles events only in the Championships ofthe Section in which his home club is a member.(4) COMPETING IN PAIR OR DANCE AT SECTIONALS: A pair or dance team composed of skaters having clubs indifferent Sections may enter the group event of the Sectional Championships of any one, but only one, of the\Sections represented by its members. The Chair of each Section concerned must be advised as to whichchampionship the group will enter.


RESTRICTIONS TO ENTRY(Part of Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph 530 (5)(1) CANADIAN FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS:(a) COMPETING IN THE SAME EVENT DISCIPLINE: No one shall compete in the same discipline (Singles, Pairs,Dance) in the same event (Novice) at Canadians more than three times.(b) WINNER OF AN EVENT DISCIPLINE: The winner or the winning pair or dance couple of an event discipline shallnot be eligible for the same event discipline again.(c )ONE OF A SENIOR PAIR OR ICE DANCE COUPLE COMPETING IN JUNIOR COMPETITION IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS:One of a pair or ice dance couple placing first, second or third in a Senior Canadian event discipline shall notenter the same event discipline in the Junior Canadian Championships with a different partner in a subsequentyear.TEST AND AGE PREREQUISITES FOR COMPETING(Part of Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph 510)(1) PRE-NOVICE EVENTS:(a) SINGLES:(i) TEST: Must have passed the Junior Bronze Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Pre-Novice Singles competitors shall be under the age of 16 before July 1 preceeding the event.(b) PAIR:(i) TEST: Must have passed the Junior Bronze Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Pre-Novice Pair competitors shall be under the age of 18 before July 1 preceeding the event.(c) DANCE:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Junior Bronze Dance test or higher.(ii) AGE: Pre-Novice Dance competitors shall be under the age of 18 before July 1 preceeding the event.(2) NOVICE EVENTS:(a) SINGLES:(i) TEST: Must have passed the Gold Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Novice Singles competitors shall be under the age of 17 before July 1 preceeding the event.(b) PAIR:(i) TEST: Must have passed the Gold Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: No age requirements.(c) DANCE:(i) TEST: Must have passed the at least two pattern dances from the Gold Dance Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Shall meet ISU Junior age criteria (maximum age limit only applies).(3) JUNIOR EVENTS:(a) SINGLES:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Shall meet ISU Junior age criteria (maximum age limit only applies).(b) PAIR:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Free Skating Test or higher.(ii) AGE: No age requirements for qualifying competitions in <strong>Canada</strong>.(c) DANCE:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Dance Test or higher.(ii) AGE: Shall meet ISU Junior age criteria (maximum age limit only applies).


(4) SENIOR EVENTS:(a) SINGLES:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Free Skating Test(ii) AGE: No age requirement.(b) PAIR:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Free Skating Test(ii) AGE: No age requirement.(c) DANCE:(i) TEST: Must have passed the complete Gold Dance Test(ii) AGE: No age requirement.SELECTION OF ENTRIES FROM SKATE CANADA SECTIONALS(Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph Section 520(10)Selection of Entries from <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Sectionals to <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge or Canadian Figure Skating Championshipsis as follows:(a)(i)(ii)PRE-NOVICE, NOVICE & JUNIOR SKATERS TO SKATE CANADA CHALLENGE:PRE-NOVICE, NOVICE & JUNIOR EVENTS EXCEPT QUEBEC: Pre-Novice, Novice and Junior competitors who placefirst, second, third and fourth in each of the Sectional qualifying events, except Quebec Section, may be selectedto represent the Section in the respective <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge, but the selection of fewer than four entriesshall be at the discretion of the Section Executive.PRE-NOVICE, NOVICE AND JUNIOR EVENTS IN QUEBEC: Pre-Novice, Novice and Junior competitors who placefirst through eighth in the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Quebec Sectionals qualifying event, may be selected to represent theSection in the respective <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge, but the selection of fewer than eight entries shall be at thediscretion of the Section Executive.SENIOR SKATERS TO CHALLENGE(Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph Section 520(11) and (12):(a)(b)ALL SENIOR EVENTS: Senior competitors who place first, second, third and fourth (first through eighth inclusivein Quebec) in the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Sectionals qualifying event, may be selected by the relevant Section to representthe Section in the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge without further qualification.COMPETITORS REGISTERED FOR SECTIONALS COMPETITION: Competitors who register for an event(s) at therelevant Sectionals Competition and who in the same competitive season have been assigned by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>or, in the case of a Senior Grand Prix, by the ISU Grand Prix selection group (or by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> in the case ofhome entries to <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> International) to a Junior Grand Prix, Senior Grand Prix or International event,shall be granted an automatic entry into the Challenge Competition event for each event discipline in which suchcompetitor was registered at such Sectionals Competition.Competitors who register for Senior events at the relevant Sectionals Competition and: (i) who have beenassigned by the ISU Grand Prix selection group (or by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> in the case of home entries to <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>International) to a Senior Grand Prix; or (ii) who have qualified for the Junior Grand Prix Final event shall begranted an automatic entry into the Senior Canadian Championship event of the same event discipline in thesame competitive season.


(c)(d)SENIOR AUTOMATIC BYES: Automatic “byes” are granted through their respective Sectionals and/or ChallengeCompetition to Senior competitors placing first, second or third in the previous year’s Canadian Championshipsin the same event discipline and/or to Senior competitors who place first, second or third at any of the previousthree ISU World Championships and/or the immediately prior Olympic Winter Games) in each case in the sameevent discipline. In the case of pairs and ice dance a bye is earned by the team not by the individual skaters, andas such the bye will be granted provided that the skaters are continuing to compete as a team.BYED SKATERS: Those who have been granted byes through Sectional qualifying events (see (b) above andByes Policy in Policies and Procedures) may enter their <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge event or Canadian Figure SkatingChampionships event (or qualifying round at Canadians) as applicable without further qualification.12. ALTERNATES: The next placed competitor in each Sectional event may be nominated as an alternate entry andmay replace an entrant who has withdrawn before the start of the event.SELECTION OF ENTRIES FROM SKATE CANADA CHALLENGE(Qualifying Competition Handbook, paragraph 525 (3)(a)FINAL RESULT: The final result in each <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge event shall determine the competitors eligible toenter the equivalent Canadian Figure Skating Championship event as follows.(i) NOVICE: The <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Novice Challenge is entitled to enter the top 18 placed singles in each ofthe Men’sand Women’s events, 12 placed Pair and 15 placed Ice Dance competitors, which include anybyes awarded in each respective event at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in the sameskating season.(ii) JUNIOR: The <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Junior Challenge is entitled to enter the top 18 placed singles in each ofthe Men’s and Women’s events, 12 placed Pair and 15 placed Ice Dance competitors, which include anybyes awarded in each respective event, at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships in the sameskating season(iii)SENIOR:(a) SENIOR SINGLES: The maximum number of competitors in the Senior singles events shall be 18. Such entriesshall be filled in accordance with subsection (e) below.(b) SENIOR PAIR: The maximum number of competitors in the Senior Pair event shall be 12. Such entries shall befilled in accordance with subsection (e) below.(c) SENIOR ICE DANCE: The maximum number of competitors in the Senior Dance events shall be 15. Suchentries shall be filled in accordance with subsection (e) below.(b)DETERMINING SENIOR ENTRIES: The Senior events at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships shall be filledin accordance with the following priority until such time as the maximum number of competitors for therelevant event has been reached:(i)(ii)firstly, those competitors who have received an automatic or individual bye; andthe balance of the entries shall be determined in accordance with the results of the Skat<strong>Canada</strong> Senior Challenge event, as applicable.(c)ALTERNATES: The entry with the next highest score from the applicable Challenge event may replace an entrantat the Canadian Figure Skating Championships who has withdrawn before the start of an event.


(d)(e)NORMAL QUOTA AT THE CANADIAN FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS NOT EXCEEDED: When the normal quotaat The Canadian Figure Skating Championships is not exceeded (i.e. 18 for Singles, 12 for Pair and 15 for IceDance) after the total number of eligible entries from the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge are combined, that event willbe held, but may not be Pattern at the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge even if the maximum event quota at one of the<strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge is exceeded.FILING OF ENTRIES: Entries from the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> Challenge must be filed by the General Chair of theOrganizing Committee or his/her nominee.SPECIFICATIONS FOR EVENTS - SKATE CANADA - CENTRAL ONTARIO SECTIONALS(Qualifying Competition Handbook paragraph 520)1. PRE-NOVICE EVENTS(a)PRE-NOVICE WOMEN’S SINGLES & PRE-NOVICE MEN’S SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP: These competitions shallconsist of two parts:(i)(ii)SHORT PROGRAM: A short program to music which shall not exceed 2 minutes, 30 seconds induration containing the group of elements announced by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> for the current season.FREE PROGRAM: A free skating program to music of 3.0 minutes (+ or – 10 seconds) in duration.The requirements for this program shall be as communicated each season.(b)PRE-NOVICE PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP: This competition will consist of two parts:(i)(ii)SHORT PROGRAM: A short program to music which shall not exceed 2 minutes, 40 seconds induration containing the group of elements announced by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> for the current season.FREE PROGRAM: A free skating program to music of 3.0 minutes (+ or – 10 seconds) in duration.The requirements for this program shall be as communicated each season.(c)PRE-NOVICE DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP: This competition will consist of two parts:(i)(ii)PATTERN DANCES: Blues and Harris TangoFREE DANCE: A free dance to music of 2.5 minutes (+ or – 10 seconds) in duration. Therequirements for this program shall be as communicated each season.2. NOVICE EVENTS(a)NOVICE WOMEN SINGLES & NOVICE MEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA: These competitions shallconsist of two parts:(i)(ii)SHORT PROGRAM: A short program to music which shall not exceed 2 minutes, 30 seconds induration containing the group of elements announced by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> for the current season.FREE PROGRAM: A free skating program to music. 2013 – <strong>2014</strong> SKATE CANADA - CENTRAL ONTARIO CODE OF CONDUCTAPPLICATIONThis Code of Conduct and any rules made pursuant hereto shall apply to any skater participating in any competition,carnival, exhibition or programme held within or sponsored, in whole or in part, by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong>.PUBLICATIONThis Code of Conduct has been adopted by the Board of Directors of <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> and anyamendments hereto, any rules made from time to time pursuant hereto or by way of explanation hereof shall bedetermined and adopted by such Board of Directors and shall be made known to all member clubs of <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>– <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> by the mailing of a copy of this Code of Conduct or any amendments, rules or explanations to eachof such member clubs within the Section. Further, any skater participating in any program or competition of <strong>Skate</strong><strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> shall be required to acknowledge receipt of a copy hereof and to agree in writing prior tosuch participation to be bound by this Code of Conduct.RULESWhile participating in any competition, carnival, exhibition or program as a figure skater, such skater:•shall not possess, use or supply to others any alcohol, narcotics or unprescribed drugs while at, within or nearthe site of such competition, carnival, exhibition or program or any residence or other accommodationsprovided in connection therewith or while in the course of being transported to or from such locations;•shall not conduct himself or herself in an unreasonable or unacceptable manner (which for clarity shall meanand include unsportsmanlike conduct, breaking training or curfew, wilfully damaging property or committingany act which is considered an offence under any duly promulgated law); and•shall not be in breach of any rules of conduct promulgated by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>.PENALTIESAny damage to property shall be paid for by the skater causing same. In addition to any action which may be takenimmediately by the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> official in charge at the time, the skater shall be subject to beingsent home at the skater’s expense and shall be required to reimburse any costs involved in the skater’s participation inthe event concerned and shall not receive any further financial assistance from <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong>.APPEALSIf a skater wishes to appeal any personal application of this Code of Conduct, such skater shall submit a written appealto the Chairman of <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> within five days of the occurrence giving rise to the application.Such appeal will be immediately investigated, a hearing shall be given to the skater and any decision thereon shall bebinding upon the skater.ACCIDENT AND PUBLICITY WAIVERIt is understood and agreed that <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> shall not be liable for injury or loss occasioned by theathlete while travelling to or from or during the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> Sectional Competition, nor shall <strong>Skate</strong><strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> be responsible for any damages or losses caused by the athlete during the same time. Theathlete and/or athlete’s parent(s)/legal guardian agree to indemnify <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> and hold themharmless from any claims or demands in respect of such loss or damage.The competitor hereby acknowledges and consents to the fact that the <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> – <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> SectionalCompetition will be videotaped either in whole or in part. The competitor hereby consents to the use of his/her name,biography and likeness on or in connection with any television or radio program, motion picture or still pictures, video,new media, Internet, web, print media or the advertising and publicizing of such program as may be designated by<strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> - <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Ontario</strong> and waives all rights to remuneration or otherwise in connection with the above. Theforegoing is subject to assurance that the eligibility of the competitor will be fully protected by <strong>Skate</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>.

If you have categories listed here that you no longer will be competing in, please click on thecategory and then on the next page select “Inactive” to de-activate the category profile.• If you are updating a pair or dance skating profile only one partner is required to update this section.• Once you have selected a category, you will be prompted to input further information such as coach registrationnumber and interpretive title (for interpretive events only).d) Planned Program• Under each Skating Profile, select Planned Program from the menu. Be sure to select the appropriate categoryand program first (short or free)• Select elements from the drop down box in order and indicate the time they will appear in the program. Asthey are updated they will be added on the top of the screen.
