We’re hoping to have the book out byMother’s Day next year.”Adele’s previous book Love, Mary, published in 2008,expressed her own and widespread Queensland support forthe Mary River, which was facing a dam proposal.“The book helped take the campaign to save the rivernationwide,” she says. Australian federal environmentminister, Peter Garrett, cancelled the project a year after thebook’s publication. It was perhaps natural, then, that the Orari River ProtectionGroup piqued Adele’s interest. The organisation formed in2003 in response to a dam proposal, and has since shifted itsfocus to pest control, advocacy and education. I can do exams with them, but I won’t push it.Busking, song writing...there are many avenues to success. Ihelp students find shortcuts and tricks to what they want.”Adele’s first book, Barefoot Dreaming, was a collectionof photographs and poems inspired by her travel aroundAustralia. “I’d like to do the same here,” she says, thinkingahead to a New Zealand-oriented volume.
