BloodLinesWe identified a number of bloodlines to incorporate into our herd. Theseincluded Matai 546, York of Kenhardt, Ramble of Kauere 175-5, Hingaia 469,Wharkowka Mate 544, Baxter of Matauri, and Puketutu bloodlines.In 1998 we purchased our first Pure New Zealand bull – Waiwera Zeus I474.He had the typical Waiwera easy doing ability, quiet temperament, depth ofbody with a great pedigree and contributes to calving ease, constitution, footstructure and type.In 2000 we included 33 heifers from Waimata Angus and Kenhardt Angus inGisborne. These carried the “Pure New Zealand” genetics that are traced tothe original Scottish cattle which came to New Zealand from 1863 onwards.In 2002, 5 Waimata heifers and 3 Kenhardt cowsjoined our herd. We flushed E1420 of Kenhardt andher full sister D1350 of Kenhardt; they produced8 live calves. These included our present herdsires Mahuta (S260) and Waiotane (S263) and afemale who went on to produce Ngahere (U407),used as a yearling sire in 2009.In 2002 Waimata Blu-print G436 was added for histhickness, excellent temperament and pedigreecombining Ramble and Buck maternal bloodlines.In 2004 we purchased the Waitawheta X69 known as “Buck”. WaitawhetaX69 was doubly bred to the most influential Pure New Zealand bull of the last15 years - Hingaia Tex 469. X69 is a son of Waimata E230 who rated veryhighly and is sought after in Australia and USA.In January 2006 we secured another of Waimata E230 son’s Waitawheta‘Lad’ X47 to replace Waitawheta X69 who had injured himself. WaitawhetaX47 traces back to Hingaia Tex 469 3 times. Both Waitawheta bulls had goodlength and left great females.Instramentally, in 2006 we secured 5 key Pure New Zealand cows from theWaiwera Angus herd at Matawai, in the Motu. We were privileged to purchasethese exceptional cows as they epitomize the type of Angus cattle we aimto breed long term.
