Society UpdateBusiness ReportWith the extremes of summer behind us, I expect we’veall caught our breath and got on with the year. TheGSA started the year with member renewals and anew online member access system for AJES. We have workedthrough governance documentation and responded to manymember and general public queries.Members put their holiday period to good use, as this issueof TAG is brimming with news and views, comments on previousletters and articles, as well interesting features and specialreports. The variety of contributions reflects the diversity ofmember interests and fields of expertise. Robert Goldsmithwrites on engineering geology and the development of theSnowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme and Brian Kennettprovides an update on the Australian Seismological ReferenceModel (AuSREM). The issue also includes educationalinformation including a report on Earth Science WesternAustralia’s 2012 activities and plans for 2013 and GregMcNamara’s regular education column. We also have an updatefrom the Teacher Earth Science Education Programme (TESEP).Bernie Joyce reports on the International Geological Conference(IGC) Geoheritage Symposium and implications for futuregeoheritage initiatives.A number of members have sent in book reviews. Weapologise if your review wasn’t published in this issue — but staytuned for the next issue. In the 2012 March and September TAGs we published thenames and photos of GSA Award recipients and membersrecognised for their contributions tothe Earth Sciences and the GSA.
