ALBANIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL SUPPLEMENTSafety in schools pertinent to the hygienic-sanitaryaspectNexhat Dula 11Institute of Public Health, Gjakova, Kosovo.Context: Recently, there exists a common opinionthat safety in schools is a problematic matter whichis being heatedly debated every day, thus challengingthe education system to deal more seriously with thisproblem. When tackling safety in schools, usually oneconsiders different forms of violence betweenstudents, as well as teacher-student relations.However, safety in schools should also consider thehygienic-sanitary conditions because of the possibilityof serious endanger threatening students and thepersonnel. The research conducted in the schools ofGjakova Municipality shows and proves areasonable concern coming from students, parentsand the school personnel.Methods: The data extracted from the inspectionconducted in the schools of Gjakova Municipality.This research study employed the descriptivemethod.Results: The analysis of hygienic-sanitary conditionin schools found that, in this region, the majority ofthe schools do not reflect genuine safety in thehygienic-sanitary aspect for students and teachers.Conclusion: Lack of necessary hygienic-sanitaryconditions in schools, jeopardizes safety of studentsand the personnel in schools. Besides that, the actualhygienic-sanitary conditions in schools have anegative impact on the epidemiologic situation whichat the same time endangers the students safety aswell. A higher persistence of the regional and centralIPHs is needed towards local and central relevantauthorities for fulfilling optimal hygienic-sanitaryconditions in schools in Kosovo.Keywords: hygiene, safety, sanitary, schools.72 ALBANIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL SUPPLEMENT
