Teaching ExcellenceTeaching Excellence, novice teacher development program, providesrigorous and relevant training and individualized coaching that supportsnew teachers through their crucial first year. Proven and adopted byschools aiming for higher standards, Teaching Excellence supports morethan 300 teachers at <strong>YES</strong> <strong>Prep</strong>, KIPP Houston, Uplift, and Spring BranchISD. For those teachers who are not already certified, our program alsooffers teachers a certification pathway.TEACHINGEXCELLENCELEADINGEXCELLENCETeaching Excellence is a three-part model:1INDUCTIONInduction is a two-week phase that is the foundation of our teachers’learning for their first year. Facilitated by our instructional coaches,Induction takes place in July and brings together the entire cohortof over 300 teachers.23INSTRUCTIONAL COACHINGWhen the school year begins, each new teacher is paired with aninstructional coach to work with throughout the first year. Theinstructional coach observes the teacher multiple times per month andprovides actionable feedback to accelerate growth and effectiveness.PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SATURDAYSEach month teachers gather together for Professional LearningSaturdays (PLS), which consist of a focus on content pedagogy, aswell as the instructional and cultural needs of new teachers. PLScourses are taught by master teachers and instructional coacheswho work to create a learning experience that is both responsive toteachers’ needs and centered around collaboration.My instructional coach has beenextremely helpful in connecting myactions in class to student-behaviorand student-achievement. Leading ExcellenceThe Leading Excellence Program exists to build a pipeline of future leaderswithin the organization who aspire to lead at a high level and fulfill the <strong>YES</strong><strong>Prep</strong> mission and vision through their leadership. With the growth of ourorganization and our commitment to open new schools, we need highperforming talent at all levels and across all teams.
