OPERATING PROCEDURECONNECTING &DISCONNECTING GASMake sure all barbeque control knobs are in the offposition. Connect the regulator to the gas cylinderaccording to your regulator and cylinder dealer’sinstructions. The thread/fitting used between theregulator and the gas cylinder is 5/8” - 18 UNF forthe bbq end and 7/8” Type 21 left hand P.O.L.Thread for the gas cylinder end. Secure all jointsspanner (wrench) tight but do not over-tighten.First time seasoning the hotplateDuring manufacturing, the cooking surfaces werecoated with a non-toxic paint. This paint will comeoff completely over time. Its purpose is purely tohelp protect your barbeque during transport andstorage.Coat the hotplate with canola oil or somethingsimilar. Light the barbeque as above. Leave thebarbeque with all burners on low for about 30minutes. Paint may come off at this time. Nowclean the surface. The hotplate is now curedand ready for use. This process only needs tobe done the first time you use the barbeque. Forongoing protection of the cooking surfaces, followthe procedures in the Cleaning, Storage andMaintenance sections.Lighting procedure• Lighting the barbeque is easy, but must be donewith due care.• Make sure that gas is turned on at the cylinder,or that gas is available to the barbeque.• Make sure the LPG cylinder is filled.• Check that the end of each burner tube isproperly located over each valve orifice.• Make sure all gas connections are securelytightened.• Open the grill lid.• To light burner, push and turn the control knobcounter clockwise to high.• Line the grease tray with crumpled aluminum foil.If burner fails to light, turn control knob to off, waitfor 5 minutes and repeat the same procedures.If burner still fails to light, turn control knob to offagain, wait for 5 minutes. Push and turn the nextcontrol knob counter clockwise to high to lightburner, then turn the burner (failed to light burner)to high and you should see the burner alight.Manual lightingPlace a lighted match or gas lighter (not provided)to the right or left hand side of the main burner.Keep your hand below the bottom of the burnerwhile doing this. Now turn the burner on. Youshould see the burner alight. Repeat to light theother burners.Lighting the Rotisserie BurnerNOTE: Pulse ignitor requires one AA battery tooperate. Make sure rotisserie knob is in the “OFF”position.3. Press and turn ROTISSERIE KNOB tothe “HIGH” position and hold down theROTISSERIE KNOB.While holding down the ROTISSERIE KNOB,press the “PULSE IGNITOR” button to light therotisserie burner4. Continue pressing the “PULSE IGNITOR” buttonfor the next 3 to 5 seconds. 5. If the rotisserie burner FAILS to light, turn theROTISSERIE KNOB to the “OFF” position andWAIT for another 5 minutes before repeating theabove stepsMatch lighting the Rotisserie Burner1. Strike and carefully place a match approximately1/2” (1 TO 2CM) from the lower edge of burner.4. Push and turn the rotisserie knob to the “HIGH”position. Continue to push rotisserie knob untilburner is lit.5. Once burner is lit, continue to push and holdrotisserie knob for 15-30 seconds.6. If the burner does not light in five seconds, turnthe rotisserie knob to “OFF” wait 5 minutes for gasto dissipate and repeat lighting procedure.7. If the burner does not light within the first fewattempts of match lighting, there is a problem withthe gas supply. Turn off the gas at the burner andat the source. Turning off safetyTo turn the barbeque off, it is best to turn off thecylinder first, and allow all the gas remaining inthe hose to burn off, this will only take a couple ofseconds. Then turn off all burners.After useWhile the hotplate is still hot, take a long handledbrush and a scraper and remove remaining oil andfood scraps. You should use an oven mitt to avoidburning yourself. Then recoat the plate with canola oilfor continued protection.Trouble shootingBurner operations and ignition system checkCheck gas connection, gas cylinder and perform aleak test if there is no gas flow.Check rotisserie ignition battery if rotisserie burnerdoes not light.Turn controller knobs off and reignite after a fewminutes if burners do not light.Replace gas cylinder if burners are burning low orwhen there is insufficient gas pressure.OthersIn the event of a strong smell of gas that is persistent,turn off gas cylinder and perform leak test.For further trouble shooting apart from the listedexamples, please contact the support hotline.MATADOR KC003 BBQ manual.indd 101/07/2011 10:37:49 AM


Inspect each burner after installation, check toensure that the gas valve orifices are correctlyplaced inside the end of the burner tubes. Alsocheck the position of your spark electrode.Blowback‘Blowback’ is a situation where the flame burnsinside the burner, towards the front, recognized by asharp roaring sound coming from the burner. It is notdangerous unless allowed to persist. If this occurs,simply turn the burner off, wait a few seconds, andthen relight.Cleaning the drip trayYou should empty the fat tray after using the BBQ.Warning: Never touch the grease tray until thebarbeque and fat have cooled down completely.Keep a clearance for the removal of the grease tray.The grease tray needs to be cleaned periodically.Line the grease tray with foil (not kitty litter or anycombustible material). Regularly clean and replacethe foil.Storage1. Ensure the grill is properly cooled.2. Storage of this gas grill indoors is permissible onlyif the gas cylinder is disconnected and removedfrom the grill.3. Store the grill in a cool dry place.4. Always disconnect the gas cylinder and store it ina safe place, never store a gas cylinder on its side.5. Never store a gas cylinder in a building, garage orany other enclosed area.6. If you intend to leave your grill outside make sureit is protected from the elements by a heavy-dutycover (not included).7.
